3D Canvas A new modelling program I discovered. ![]() Seems THOUSANDS time cheaper then any modelling programs I have heard of! The features of it seems decent go their site and read the product comparision between the FREE version and PRO version - along with many plug-ins. Comes with tutorial and many extra features which will help you guys model if you buy PRO For more info about this exciting modelling program alternative to 3ds Studio Max , go to http://www.amabilis.com/products.htm Finally but not least... The models you create with it can be saved as (for pro which is recommended): POVRay (pov) RenderMan (rib) 3D Studio (3ds) DirectX (x) MS Train Simulator (s) MS Flight Simulator 2002 Shockwave 3D (w3d) AutoCAD (dxf) LightWave (lwo) Neutral Object Format MD2 RAW (raw) RenderWare (rwx) TrueSpace (cob) VRML (wrl) Wavefront (obj) WorldToolKit (nff) Remember some of the model formats can be converted. I RECOMMEND THE PRO VERSION FOR YOU PROFESSIONAL MODELLERS OUT THERE! ITS VERY CHEAP IF YOU BUY PRO WHICH IS GOOD! |

Its quite hard to debate which proggy is the best: everyone has its own favorite and pro. If you look for another alternative you can try Maya (the learning edition is now free for download with no limitations and one copy is included if you purchased UT2k4). From what I heard of, Maya is quite a good alternative to max But honestly, I doubt people in here are intersted in those modelling programs if you cant use it to export things into wc3. Im not sure if that program support max scripts, so it also is quite limited if you want to use that thing to mod. Most plugins are usually written in either gmax, maya, 3d studio max, lightwave etc... (for games at least) |

The user interface on maya looks alot crappier than 3dsm's and I hear rumors that apple is going to to buy 3dsm off of discreet. |

I don't really want to buy a 3d program that don't have a mdx exporter for it. Anyway, it look pretty cool. |

Unfortunately, programs with less than ideal interfaces also tend to be jammed with a lot more firepower. It's easier to make less functionality more elegant and simple since there's less to work with. As soon as you saturate a program with more features, it gets cluttered and less intuitive. Maya is the choice among standard professionals because 3DSMax, despite what you think, is a less potent product. That also explains the several factor difference in price between the two products. 3DSMax just happens to be a more popular product among more mainstream users since it's more accessible and easy to use than most others in its class. Of course, if you're the top professionals, you'd make your own program like Pixar did for themselves. :) |

I always thought the big difference between max and maya was that max had an advantage and more tools at its disposal when working in low poly, and maya had the advantage when working very high poly or with nurbs. I figured that would also explain why a lot of game companies use max and the cinema uses maya mostly edit-- Holy shit, its Ganon! I heard that you had gone off to mod HL2. Do you have a site, I would like to see it. |
