I've sent this is private tells to 2 people today, the idea just came upon me to post in public. I would like to unprotect a map called "Changeling." I've managed to get into the map, and found where there were buildings (the goblin merchant) removed, and the items with them were removed. I painstakingly replaced them all, set the parameters, added in monsters to be killed for gold, and tried to save it; only to find out that the map was protected to the point that it rendered all triggers useless upon saving and crashed WorldEditor. If you can help me with this, I have no intention of stealing the map. It's a dead map, created July 13, 2003, with no updates since. I would greatly appreciate your help. You can email me at [email protected]. Phillip Mangum |

wc3campaigns does not support unprotecting maps, this would be the wrong place to post this |

Hey, you shouldn't be trying to unprotect maps and steal them. People protect their maps to prevent people like you from stealing their map. If you want to look at what he did, that's fine, but when seeing as you're so desperate as to STEAL his entire map, all I can say is get into making maps of your own and not taking others. |

This is a very controversial topic. Since Blizzard encourages people to look at other maps to learn stuff, it's not very good to protect maps so that they can't be opened. Therefore Darky27 encourages protections that enable users to open maps but don't allow them to save them (after saving it can't be played any longer). There are also legal issues involved, for more details check this thread: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthread.php?t=56695 Of course I understand the stance of those people who don't want anyone to copy their map. In this case it won't be very problematic if he tells the truth, that this map has not been updated for a long time and is "dead". I assume that the creater didn't leave contact information to ask him. I would state in the map that you took portions of a map by someone else. Send the map to [email protected] and I'll look at it (this doesn't necessarily mean that I'll unprotect the map). |

I have no intention of "stealing" the map. The author will maintain credit for it.... well, the original author was long ago overwritten by whoever turned his map from original W3 to TFT. I don't steal maps. I've made a few myself, but have never really had the patience to make a really decent custom map. The only credit I will get is where it will say in the loading screen that it was modded by me, and will provide my email to contact for future updates. And as for the gentleperson that insists that I am hellbent on "stealing" the map, he is sadly mistaken. Whoever made this (and another individual is correct: there is no way to contact this person) did a fantastic job. Whoever modded it removed his shop to buy upgrades, in which the original author put alot of time/effort into making custom units to be placed in there. |

Actually, blizzard just doesn't support map protection, but there is even some instructions in the bnet's FAQ to protect maps. You should go somewhere else for this stuff so, I think that if someone protects a map, it was his choose , and we should respect that. Anyways closed since these threads always end in flame wars |
