I figured I have alot of them so I thought I would make my own thread, and it makes me feel cool. I am making sort of a Third person shooter with alot of stuff :D first off, I need a step by step walkthrough on how to change the defend ability to evasion instead of piercing attacks. The marine class is able to Crouch and Prone allowing him to dodge some of the bullets. So what I want to do is have an ability called Crouch and when it is used His movement speed slows, but his evasion goes up by 10% and prone it slows even more but evasion is 20% (Percentages maybe higher, just giving an example, im not an idiot so if you give me a rough outline, I can edit if needed.) Second, I am pretty sure this is darn near impossible, but the map is using vehicles, I know you can use the mount Hippogriph ability, but I only want the class engineer to drive the vehicles, which I know how to do, the extremely complicated part is I want the Marines or other classes to be able to be on the vehicle with them shooting from the plane and if the plane is shot down, If you bought the item parachute you can parachute safely from the plane (if it was a plane) onto the ground. so basically, I want co-op vehicles, if that's possible, Any help is appreciated Third, This is an opinion question, would you want Homing bullets or not? For you not so IQ warcrafty people, Homing bullets would make your gun hit no matter what, with them off, you would shoot at the enemy where he was when you casted the ability shoot, if he moved, you miss, unless your using a rocket launcher which has AoE damage, You cannot shoot while your moving, so with the proper assault rifle, even with them off, you would just have the guy running if he didn't want to die, and he would never get a shot off, which Could be kinda retarded to just chase him. But I am leaving this up to the peoples opinion, which would you prefer. THERE IS NO STRAFE, so you can't move back and forth, although it is arrow controlled, if that changes your opinion any. I do have another question which I am going to update the first post with, I am currently trying to make a sprint button as well as the crouch which was the question about evasion, I tried editing slow and changing it to speed bonus but was unable, Like I said I am not skilled with Trigger Spells. I need the speed to increase by a %, but make it so you cannot cast spells (Silence, Since Shoot is a Ability/Spell) I also need the skill to be like immolation where it can go on and off at will, except not cost any mana. that's about it for now, I will probably post some more information about the Map later so I can get some ideas also, but for now, this is good. Thanks for any help and comments. |

You should ask your first question in the Trigger Haven, since I'm pretty sure that's where you'll find your answer. Secondly, You might want to look at the Cargo abilities, or see if you can find someone who knows anything about the Dwarf Load that was used in the RoC beta to put Riflemen and Mortar Teams inside Steam Tanks to give them different attacks. If you can get it to work, it ought to simulate your ability fairly well. Otherwise, if you put a cargo ability on the tank/plane/bicycle and use a trigger to detect when units enter it and what kind they are, you might be able to morph it to a unit with movement when an "Engineer" enters it. Also a trigger question, so I recommend you ask there. |

You can make the evasion abilities separately, then use triggers to "Add ability - Evasion" and "Remove ability - Evasion" whenever you detect that the ability is being used. Alternatively, you could try to give it an ability based off the "Bear Form" ability, essentially replacing the unit with itself except that it has a certain level of evasion. As for the second one, it's kinda tedious I guess. You can try making a modified flying burrow, thus the rate of fire will increase with each marine inside. Otherwise, you can attempt to use triggers to make the marines "follow" the plane by moving the marine automatically to where the plane is, and adjusting to flying height. Eeek. I don't know, there's probably a better way. You could give the plane a modified pheonix fire ability, becoming more powerful with each marine on the plane. I guess that would work too, but you can't see the marines. Those games that have people who move become untouchable are kinda dumb, homing bullets aren't too bad. If you use normal targeting systems, I suggest homing bullets. However, alternatively, you can attempt to use another "targeting system" which is to make all the teams allies, and set two teams of "targets". which are invisible. Give your bullets a small AoE, and for each marine, put a target that is randomly moving in an area around him. If you played Wing Commander or any other space shooting game, this is sorta like an "IDDS" (or ITTS, whatever). Basically, when you attack move, your marine will attack the target, which has a certain projection off the marine itself. You can make it such that the target has a polar offset from the position of the marine. Lastly, if you're trying an arrow key game, I suggest you test it once on the net before it's even close to completion, because some arrow key games can be horrible with lag. Lag ruins things. If it's too incomplete just try a Lan test with yourself or something. It's not nice to finish hard work on a map only to realise that it's too laggy to work. |

Thanks for the help guys, the main reason I didn't post it in Trigger Haven is because I figured I had some other questions that didn't relate directly to those, and I wanted to keep most questions in the same thread to prevent spam all over the forums. Ant, I don't quite understand what you mean with evasion, I'm not to good at trigger spells. About the second, ya that will be pretty difficult as I figured, I'm sure I could do a flying burrow fairly easy, the thing is I wanted the marines to have their seperate attacks as I am using different weapons in the map, meaning the properties of that weapon apply to it. Difficult I figure. I did decide on homing bullets, to prevent first of all the difficulty of balancing to prevent to much dodging and too much hitting, other balancing issues, and just having to change the missle speed and properties for alot of things. I do have another question which I am going to update the first post with, I am currently trying to make a sprint button as well as the crouch which was the question about evasion, I tried editing slow and changing it to speed bonus but was unable, Like I said I am not skilled with Trigger Spells.
