Elf of Darkness
Hi, I'm trying to make a fur effect for one of my skins, but I can't seem to get it to look right. Does anyone have any good suggestions for making realistic fur? I tried looking through the tutorials, and I found one thing, but it didn't help that much. Thanks for any help you all have.

Windrunner
you could open up some skin wirh fur (gargoyle or druid of the claw)

what i would do is: make it a dark colour. then with a lighter colour make hair,
start with little stripes. the another brighter colour and do the same.
then with a very light colour (if you want brown fur take really lightbrown)
in the middle. for light effects. the dark is for shadow.

hope i helped :D

There isn't really a miracle filter that can do fur. You can CnP fur textures from other units to save lots of time and headaches. But if you're good at manual ways, do Windrunner's method, or if you're really good, youll find yourself a way without filters of cnping. What i do is intensive burn and dodge until it looks like hairs or fur. i try to make the fur equal. one spot there wont be a lot of white or black.

For doing fur textures, you will mostly learn by yourself..

Rotate Canvas 90% or not depending on what angle you want the fur directed in.
Use the 1 Grass Stem brush at whatever size is appropriate in a light shade of the color you want the fur to be.
Repeat with the 3 stem grass brush at the appropriate size.
Reduce size, darken color, repeat 2,3 over and over until you get the desired effect for fur
Dodge/burn in order to shade with a large 1 stem grass brush.
