Is there anyway to change base damage in-game ? not +dmg like items, and replacing the unit is not an option.

All units have entries for Base Damage, Base Damage Dice, and Base Damage Sides (referring to the dice). 10, 2, and 6 respectively would be 10 + 2d6 damage, ranging from 12 to 22, with an average damage of 17.

Heroes have Base Damage dice and Base Damages Sides. Their Base Damage is equal to their Primary Attribute.

Doezzat help?

I'm sure that doesn't help him at all, he needs a trigger to raise the damage while the game is being played. And honestly, I think upgrades are one of the only ways, you can give the unit the upgrade type and then research it, but even that doesnt' work for crap. sorry wish I could be of more help.

Whoops. That, indeed, does not help him. Must've missed the "in-game" specification. :D

Ok, the only things I can think of that hasn't been brought up yet are GoldenUrg's trigger Setunitstr/int/agi and a trigger which subtracts variable A from the life of Attacked Unit.

If you need any help with any of those two sugesstions than just ask, but I think they should be self explainitory.

In my RE map I used what he's talking about for increasing attack. For example, a special item adds 600 damage when equipped.

A unit owned by Neut Hostile is attacked

Attacking unit = to Sniper
(other stuff)

Action - Set life of attacked unit to life of attacked unit - 600

The problem will be that if the damage kills the unit then you get no exp. I have decent ways around this but they are kind of complicated and I dont want to type it all out here.

couldnt u do a check for how much life there is on attacked unit and if its less than 600 then set to 1 b4 the attack hits?

Attack only misses ever if it's siege.

Actually, that's not quite right. As far as I can tell, there's several reasons at attack might randomly miss. Attacking a hero with evasion will cause random misses. A unit who is cursed will randomly miss. But the hardest scenario to detect are ranged attacks (siege or otherwise) made against targets at higher elevations. All non-instant (ie, riflemen) missile units attacking a unit that is at an elevation above them will miss some percentage of the time (forgot the exact number; 30%, maybe?). Siege units will never miss when given an attack ground order, btw (useful for attacking immobile targets like towers at raised elevations).
