So I just got accepted, but I'm waiting for the file to download. So I decided to do some b&w drow/dark elf portraits.
I don't want any fan boy Drizzt pictures, but post your renditions and concepts of dark elves here! I've seen several different types of dark elves, drow with blue skin, brown skin, pale skin, white hair, black hair, female dominating society, equal society, just post your drow damnit!

Oh and did anyone else get beta?

omg you got beta x_x. i will probably never get beta myself
what do you have to do when you have beta? it must be a big honor!
also i don't know whats a drow :(....
but i can tell your male drow should have his ears lowered down. put your finger one a point that humans and drows have a common and pull it towards your face..thats a weird trick i do, voodoo maybe. the regular human ear begins at the end of the nose, maybe a lil bit down more... and finishes at the top of the eye. anyways, wathever a drow is..yours is sexay as hell.

Thanks, I can't wait to play, it's estimated at another 2 hours X.X
I noticed the ear being to high... to late, I may redo it but right now I'll leave it as is.
Drows are Dark Elves, almost every game or book has a different idea of what a drow is but usually they dwell underground and have dark skin and are evil thus most races hate them.

You got Beta? congrats. I haven't yet... and I doubt I will.

other than the Ear being too high... all I really see wrong is that the eye cavity is quite small... And his forehead looks to be att an odd angle.

The girl looks ok... that nose seems really long though.

I think drow should have long faces, they look more elf like if you ask me.

I agree with the others about the alignment of the ears, and DAMN YOU.
You.. you.. beta wielding beastie!

Who IS Drizzt anyway? I've heard of him so many times, but I have no idea who he is.

Thanks Jester! Saved to my computer for reference. So I just woke up and it's 2:00... my mage reached lvl 10 at 5:00 last night. I think I'm gonna power lvl to max lvl, or try at least.

I had twenty or so minutes on hand, so if you don't mind, here's a quick paintover I did.

Here's a breakdown of what I did:

I used the liquify filter to push around his face. I moved his ear down, and I extended his hair higher and his forehead lower. The hair usually covers more of the skull that what you had. I made the jawbone and chin smaller and less prominent, as in their present state they seemed too large for me to think of them as elven features. I think that's all I pushed around.

Then I shaded his face differently. I used more contrast for one, to make the picture have some more drama about it. I also improved some of the layout of the shadows and light to better suggest his face. Namely, I put more shadows around his eyes and the bones there around to make them look sunken and to add to his malevolent look. I changed him mouth a bit, and heavily shaded his neck area. I think it'd be dificult to explain everything of what I did on his face, as it was more intuitive than deliberated. It will come with obervation and study.

Then I extended his hair down and changed that strand in front of his ear. His hair looks like it is very long, or perhaps it flows into a robe he's wearing. I left that up to the imagination of the viewer. I also made the highlights in his hair smaller and more specular, as they usually appear in hair.

After that came the background. Didn't put much thought into it really. I know it is the opposite of the lighting scheme on his face, but it doesn't really matter much, as there is more contrast this way.

That's about it. I tried to make him look more evil in general.

I really like what you had there, both faces; don't get me wrong. I liked it enough to fool around with it, in fact, as I found the pictures inspiring. Or the theme. I like the sketchiness of the pictures and that I can see the brushstrokes. There are some technical and anatomical issues you have, but they are nothing serious and can be remedied quite simply. I like the female's expression, and the smooth shading on her skin is great.

There's not much more for me to say as I will probably start to become more redundant than I already am. Fine work you have, even if they are sketches, but I can see the potential in them. Keep at it. Your brushwork and shading is great!

Not trying to bust your balls or anything Jester, but maybe give credit where its due? Just seems that people are sorta under the impression that you made that or maybe they're not, i don't know.. just seems right. That's from Lung Bug's sketchbook at conceptart.org. Yeah..

Thanks a ton Ogre, I can see some dramatic improvements on the cheek. It seems my shading wasn't as far off as I had thought it should have been - Again thanks!

I'm always astounded as to what professional artists can do with stuff.

That's a very nice Paintover Ogre... and I guess the "intuitiveness" just comes with time.

Good work man.
