Howdy folks. I'm working on a model, but could use a little advice. What I'm doing right now is merging an Unbroken One's arm to an Arthas, so he now has this freaky monster arm. However, it occured to me that getting this thing to animate properly might be a bit difficult, with the joint bending and what not. If there is anything I should know about getting his arm to work right, please give me some insight. ^_^ |

If you have 3ds max, then that will be significantly easier? Do you? If so, do the following: Cut the arm into three objects (upper, lower, and hand). Export as MDL and merge normally. If not, do this: Start with the unanimated arm merge you have. Based on the coordinates of each vertex, change the cooresponding entry for the VertexGroup to 0, 1, or 2 for the upper arm, lower arm, or hand, respectively. Either way, go here afterwords: Go to the Matrices section of that geoset and change the numbers there to coorespond with the bones of the Arthas model. It will look like something like... Code:
Groups 4 4 {
Matrices { 16 },
Matrices { 17 },
Matrices { 18 },
}If you upload your MDL and tell me what programs you're using, I can be more specific. |

I got most of what you say, but I'm still a bit fuzzy. I'm using 3dsmax 6 (I couldn't get my hands on an older version.) The model also has a Captain's head merged where Arthas's head use to be. I'm pretty sure it works, since I've done head swapping before The Unbroken One's arm is for his right arm, so that creepy hand holds the sword. (Wanna take a guess at who this is? ;) ) Anyways, if you can take a look at it and show me how to fish for myself, all will be well. EDIT: Uh... on second thought, for some reason, the forums isn't uploading my .mdl file. I keep getting some internet explorer errors. Is it alright if I send it to you via e-mail? |
