hi i only know 3dsmax, i never worked with g-max before, but at some screenshots i could see that it looks nearly like the same as 3dsmax and i know its much cheaper!
but art tools dont work with Gmax!

how comfortable is it to work with Gmax? (especially the export into WC3 (Animations Particles?) what programs/scripts do you need, if you want to work with g-max?

and maybe could it work to convert the Art Tools? so that we can use them for G-max too?

and can somebody show some more screenshots or an movie from g-max particle and animations?

THX!

You better could use 3dsmax that has the arttools and such so you could make your own animations and such... Though my 3dsmax crashes my computer now

You can use 'Dex for g-max to export animations and such but there is NO way as i know it to make particles with G-max. And G-Max is not even close to as good as 3ds max. G-Max is basicly "3ds max light" so it misses alot of features that 3ds max have. But it works to make models with 3ds max and the 'Dex script but you can count on some MDL editing if you want particle emitters and stuff.

G max is very similar to the 3ds max infact G max is straight from 3ds max 4 which made me wonder when i tried it why the art tools didnt work but ive got max anyway.

if you were really keen you could make your models in g max and export them to 3ds max then export them into .mdx files :)...but i wouldnt

if you use 3dsmax why should you use g-max too? i only thought it would be cool ti find a legal and comfortable way for modeling like 3dsmax but on a much cheaper way!

gmax is easier enviroment to learn the basics of max it, i started with Gmax. Its easier to start with less clutter then you can move to 3ds when you feel comfortable with Gmax

I moved from G to 3DS Max when i realised that the cut too would not work very well on already extruded surfaces and would somtimes cut an edge somwhre deep inside my model, although it does happen in 3DS it happens nowhere near as often :)

You can try getting the cheap version of 3d studio max by getting the student license

or better, try looking for a trusty version to buy off ebay since the 6.0 mania the version 5 is quite low nowadays

(one side note: Red and Skizot has decided that you are NOT allowed anymore to use ANY of Reds models (zerglings etc), not allowed to modify it in any way and to use the skin in any way possible, also applies to eventually animations etc. I hope you would follow this decision, as not conceding with it woudl lead to severe consequences.
