Well, I don't have a whole lot done on this (as I am focusing the little time I get on Minotaur 2) but I thought I would post up some info and see what people think about it, if they have more ideas, or anything else. The game was inspired by "Castle" at http://www.xgenstudios.com/ check it out if you want to kill a lot of time :P Game Basics: 1-4 Players Map is playable solo, but only on "Seige" mode. "Seige" mode for non-competitive play "War Games" mode for competitve mode where players send attackers instead of computer Team Modes available Gameplay Basics: Each player has a Gate they have to keep the invaders from breaking through. Over the course of 100 levels on "Seige" mode, or until one person is left in "War Games" mode, invaders will enter your area and try to make it to your gate and start hacking away at it. Players will have many many ways of defending against the invaders and repairing damage done to the gate. As far as I know this is going to be some unique gameplay (if you have seen a map that reminds you of the above mentioned game, please let me know) This is NOT a TD, but has towers in it, although they don't function how you would think. Play the above mentioned game for an idea of how they will work. Some of the things that have been designed or thought up so far. Archer Towers: Every archer you add to the tower increases the attack speed of the tower. You can not train more archers if there are not enough blacksmiths to make them arrows. (2 archer towers) Can gain a few upgrades. Catapults: Every Engineer on a catapult increases it's attack rate. Ever Mage on a catapult increases the speed at which Fire Balls can be fired from a catapult. Can gain various upgrades (5 catapults) Mage Towers (White/Black/Red): Ever Mage stationed at a mage tower adds to mana/regeneration. New spells become available after a certain number of mages are in a tower. Barracks: Trains various units to be transported out in front of the gate to defend it. Forge: Every Blacksmith allows for 5 more archers to be trained. Many other varied functions. Repair Hall: Each Carpenter allows for the gates hp to be restored quicker. Many other varied functions. Mercenary Camp: Hire mercenaries to fight with units trained in the barracks. Each Merc costs gold to retain services. Temple: Allows some invaders to be converted to fight for you. Mini Towers: 6 units can be stationed within. Many different units available to be trained to be put in them. Air Battery: An anti-air tower. Each generator placed in the tower allows for more damaging electric bolts to be fired. Heros: Defenders of Gate, each has useful abilities, but each Gate keeps only 1 Hero on staff. Spike Traps: Traps are laid out on the path leading up the gate, and will damage incoming invaders. Once a trap is activated it is gone. Burning Oil: Oil can be poured from the gate (possibly other functions) and will burn until the oil is gone. Well, I guess that is enough for now. Invaders include footmen, knights, giants, dragons, and more. Invaders are sent by the computer in "Seige" mode, but are sent in a manner similar to a "tower war" in "War Games" mode. I guess that is all for now. Tell me what you think so far, play the above game, and let me know if you have any ideas, comments, suggestions, changes, or whatever. I may be willing to work with another person on this, but am not going to consider it until I am done with ML2 and working on this alone. |

I suppose I'll say what you DO with the converts in Defend Your Castle (I'm at level 25) Archers: Works as explained above. Wizards: Works as explained above. Availible spells: Death: kills one invader instantly. Fireball: AoE Death. Conversion: Instantly remove an invader. and gain a convert. Craftsmen: Work as explained above. EDIT: Suicide Bomber: send them out, And detonate them , killing the convert, and LOADS of invaders too. Why not have reinforcing the gate between levels like you can do in the game this will be based on? Of course, you WILL get to prepare, like building this stuff. The giants were unkillable by the means you could kill anyone else in the game (Flinging them into the sky), but that would be impossible. You never mentioned the Suicide bombers. |

I might put in the bombers, I am going to try to add a lot of stuff to this, as Castle gets old rather quick, and the best part (flinging guys into the air) is gone so it will need a lot of things to make up for that. As far as converts go, I don't think I am going to do it the same way. The idea of having to have the unit to train a new one may work, but I was planning on converts simply turning to your side. Since there are going to be many many more types of invaders, being able to convert them will be cooler I think. |

I just thought I would go ahead and stick up a few screens of what I have going so far. Just put the guys in there so you can see sizes. Map is now gonna be called "The Gate" also. Things may change a bit, like the towers, I haven't actually gotten anything other than terrain done, so those are really just place holders at the moment. Anyways, here they are. |

Looks good, I hope to see it completed. I take it you're all better now? Or are you still sick or whatever? |

Actually i already made that castle map for wc3, complete with flying splattering sheep. But of course I'm not here to hijack your post, I'm just here to tell you that it wasn't very popular so i hope you have better luck with your towers. |

Well, I am actually still "sick", but I can do most things again (although I had to quit my job, doctors orders) They it was Stress, West Nile, and a stomach disorder. Apparently I am now prone to anxiety attacks, so I have to avoid stress as much as possible. West nile can have lasting effects for upwards of a month or more, and the stomach thing will apparently last the rest of my life :( Oh well, I got lots of drugs to make me fill better now :) As far as you map goes TH15 I tried it and mine will be MUCH different. You do a pretty damn good job of capturing the original, even how you can just sit back with lots of archers, and the picking up thing is sweet. But basically I am just using the very basic ideas as a base, I am going to add way more content and the game play will be different (no clicking to pick guys up, just maning the the towers, casting spells, and few other things :) ) Anyways, I would still be very interested in getting an unprotected, or at least openable version of your map to see how you did a couple things (like the sheep spawning) I have a pretty good idea of how I want to do most things, but if your map already has something that may work, I may just alter it (I'd give you credit if I used it) to fit my game. Please pm me and let me know if I can or cannot get a copy, if so we can figure out how I'll get it later :) Progress Notes: Terrain has been changed a bit Basic Tower Setup has been started Add Ons have been started (yeah I didn't say what they were, but I started em) Started on Tower Abilities (BTW if a mod reads this, is it possible to change the thread name to "The Gate" since the game name has been changed) |

Well, I didn't have much time today, but I got to a point where I could do some VERY early tests of both the attacker triggers, and the Tower Unit triggers, so I just thought I would take a quick pic, you can see a few things in it. It is really too early to be having screens of the map working, but I figured wtf :D Lots of stuff is still changing so this may not be a very acurate picture for long. Edit: hrm, now the image didn't upload right :( well, I guess I'll try to put up one tommorrow then Edit: upload still isn't working so I still can't upload... guess I'll just wait till later to post a shot |
