First Attempt At Terraining

So I need some crits. What this is meant to be is a mountain valley forest, were Wood Elves have taken residence up in the trees. I will give a breif examination of some of the pics.
  • Elf Valley 3: This is the way that they get up and down from the catwalk. Step on the red, you go to the other red.
  • Elf Valley 5: The elves are self-suffecient. They have many protections cast over their agra-area to ensure no damage is done.
  • Elf Valley 6: This is looking down the pass that leads into the valley.
  • Elf Valley 7: This shows a market place. Though self-sufficient, humans have seized the oppurtunity to sell exotic goods and spices that the elves cannot produce on their own.
  • Elf Valley 8: Another instance of humans taking advantage of the elves suclusion is this tavern. Though the elves are picky, the tavern stocks elven wine imported from more wildernessless areas.
  • Elf Valley 9: The effects of a tavern in town... ^_^
  • Elf Valley 1: My favorite. Two words: RAIDING PARTY! :o

[edit]Sorry about the toolbar at the top of the ss's. Didn't even notice them until now. Hope it don't detract from the overall feeling ;)

That is some awesome terrain there. It's a nice village! Great work! 1 question though (been struggling with this myself) how were you able to get people to walk on the custom table model? I can't figure it out. Nice work! :D

The terrain is ok its just its all flat! flat terrain=no good, if you just add terrain height it will be pretty good! :D

in the object editor, under Movement, there is Height. Adjust that and they look like they are 'floating'. If you want to make it playable, all you have to do is put invisible platforms over the catwalk so its flush. Then units can move on them without their hight being changed.

You mean like noise or something like that? I guess I could make hills so trees are taller in areas... Getting onto that.

Well, I didn't put noise in the village, since its a more developed and flat area. Noise in the forest didn't do much to the appearance, so I used the raise tool to make hills. Anything else?

Those are lazy terrainers Cliffs - use the raise ground tool and pathing blockers, other than that good start - maybe some variation in tree species??

Use page down on most(or maybe all) of your trees because they're floating.
And it doesn't look good at all how your house is floating, create some kind of platform that it stands on instead. Other than that your trees are to close to each other, place them more randomly and more careful. Almost forgot that you should have a larger tile variation.

Welcome aboard!

Nieffed: With time... But Beam is good, and there are many people out there who make this look like crap without effort(Gitlich, just to name one.)

SS3Goku: I hate the cliffs, and they are just there for...um...scenery. I am getting rid of them soon.

Pyrokinesis: Thats Mr.Lazy to you.

Tylor: 1)The trees aren't floating, they are on a hill. 2)Houses are being held up by the trees. 3)Trees are close together to simulate what a real forest would look like. 4)I will be working on that when I get rid of the cliffs.

P.S. Thanks for your comments guys. I really do appreciate good, constructive critism, and I'm glad that is what I am getting.

1)Yes they're floating I can see the ground beneath them, I'm talking about the ones on top of the flat ground
2)I don't think that the trees could do that but I guess there's magic in the air.^^
3)then add some more shrubs, flowers, rocks and logs inside the forest.
