Ok I thought I could do this campaign singlehandedly, but 15 maps, 5 heroes, scores of custom units and dozens of complex triggers later I realize I may need some assistance after all. I would appreciate anyone's help. I especialy need: -Cinematic Experts -A female voice actor (sound set only) -Someone good at putting custom sounds on units -Someone good with balance -Trigger experts -skinner Also Helpful though not neccesary: -People with story ideas -people with unit ideas -People who are creative about their map making, I would post a beta here if it werent already 7 Megabytes...but here are some screens: /// |

Right... I don't know if "Return of Fire" is something very populair or something, but at least, I for one, don't know it. If you want people to join up, give them a story and the features it has. Voice Acters and Testers are the last people you want to ask for a project. They are completely useless in the beginning stages of the project. Usually I don't say this, but the terrain looks just plain 'Bad'. It is very dull and there is a GREAT lack of variation of tiles. (Especially the map in Felwood and the citymap with the Fountain and houses) You might want to learn some more skills before going full out on this project if everything looks like this. Sorry if this post strikes somewhat hard or is insulting, but... well, no buts from me actually :P the terrain reminds me a of a friend who started with the World Editor a few weeks ago. (I haven't seen his terrain since eh... 4 days when he started, and yours looks similiar) Well, if you still want to continue in full speed, I wish you luck. (Don't forget to post the story ;)) -Fladian |

if my terrain is bad explain why the hell it is, and what I can bloody fugging do about it? I mean JEEZ I came here for help, not to be flamed/trolled! Story: "The Shattered Hand" It came to be that two great warriors of the Shattered Hand Clan were allowed to fight amongst the ranks of the Shadowmoon Clan. Karia and Yogiron were known throughout the clans for their savagery, and for their undying love for one another. It came as no surprise to the Horde when it was learned that Karia had become pregnant with Yogiron's whelp. It was not very long until a healthy male was born; during the raid on New Stormwind, when the Book of Medivh was stolen. At the next naming cycle the youngster was given the name "Yugiro Onedai" (Onedai meaning "Another World", in honor of the fact he was born on Azeroth). Tragedy soon struck, however. During the battle of Dalaran, and mainly due to the reckless tactics of the Shadowmoon's Slayer, Karia and Yogiron were slain, and Yugiro was left hidden in a cave. Far away, the bulk of the Shattered hand were busy battling the forces of the Alliance at the Dark Portal there. Leading the battle was Karia's older brother: Kargath Bladefist. After learning of his sister's fate, Bladefist knocked a draon rider from his mount and flew off towards Dalaran. After hours of searching, Bladefist found Yugiro. However, the tired and injured dragon soon expired, and Bladefist was forced to make his way to the Dark Portal on foot...only to discover that it, and Draenor, had been destroyed. Realizing his home was gone and the horde was defeated, Bladefist decided to just live out his years taking care of his nephew. They settled somehwere south of Khaz Modan... "The Fate of Stromgarde" after the second portal was destroyed, the nations of Azeroth began to heal; including Stromgarde. Stories about Danath soon became increadibly popular. A child born about that time was especially fond of these stories. everything he did in life, he did so to try and be just like Danath. His name was Ryu Farrence. Joining the army at the young age of 10, Ryu received the best training there was. At about the age of fifteen, the fall of Lordaeron happened at the hands of the burning legion. Thoras Trollbane andhis sons were killed during the invasion, causing chaos within the nation. The government of Stromgarde collapsed within 2 years, and the army was disbanded. Soon the nation would be overrun by bandits. As for Ryu, he wandered as far as he could from Stromgarde, trying to find work. After reaching Azeroth he met a young man named Tselner Robinson; an apprentice in the healing arts anda mamber of the most interesting group Ryu had ever heard of: "The Bounty Hunter's Guild". Fascinated by the idea, Ryu became a Bounty Hunter, and traveled across the land looking for his next bounty heads..... "Cloak and Dagger" It has been said that love knows no boundaries. That there is no gap between two people that love can not break. After their daring quest to free the Dragonqueen Alexstrazsa, Vereesa Windrunner and the rogue mage Rhonin became very close. Soon this closeness blossomed into love. They were wed in Quel'Thalas, and a few years later were blessed with a daughter: Luthien. Young Luthien loved and was loved by all her elven neighbors as a sister, but none more so than Sylvannas Windrunner, her First cousin. At the age of twelve both her homes were destroyed by the Scourge. For a time she traveled with the Blood elves, but they became separated shortly before Kael first met Grand Marshal Garithos. Luthien suddenly found herelf alone.... "Lament of a Warlord" So much death had been caused, both to his own people, and to his rivals. So much sorrow for a cause that was in the end stopped. As he wore the guise of a humble merchant, he wondered if he would ever have a chance to make a difference. "Return of the Scourge" After Ner'Zuhl became one with his champion, the Death Knight Arthas, his power grew staggeringly. With new knowledge and strength, the Lich King was able to create even more powerful undead soldiers, and even began to experiment with demons. For the next seven years the Lich King built his armies and bolstered his forces. A new Dark Citadel was constructed in the ruined land of Quel'Thalas; this keep was placed under the conrol of Kel'Thuzad, who had managed to evade capture by the Forsaken. ner'Zuhl was pleased to discover that Baron Perenolde, now a ruthless Death Knight himself, had remained loyal to him and continued to battle The Forsaken. So pleased was he that he comissioned the now half-dead nation of Alterac to lead the first invasions of Khaz Modan. Further, Arthas ignited a fierce campaign against The Frosaken. With the power of Ner'Zuhl and Arthas's strategies all topped off with new monsters, it seemed inevitible that the Forsaken would fall..... "distress in the desert" because the Burning legion chose to go straight to Kalimdor, where it was ultimateely defeated,, Azeroth (the nation) was unharmed. However, there is one thing that no army can truly conquer: Crime. A small village near an Azeroth desert was constantly plagued by a band of Rogues. Ryu Farrence discovered the village and agreed to take care of the rogues in exchange for his fee. and so our story opens.... |

I am SORRY if I did anything if I insulted you here, anyway, I am not in the best mood this last week and still my mood hasn't really cleared up just yet. Anyway, even though I'm a terrainer my skill drops dramaticly when I'm in either a badmood or depressed, so I don't think I want to give any advice right now :P Because it'll only get worse then :P Uhhum... anyway, take a look in the terrain forum, or the mappers guild, heck perhaps even look at a picture of Pheonix. That'll give enough advice. People seriousely hate, when everything is the same. Try to make variation, (especially Felwoord hurts my eyes if you see it too much) try to make some more doodads like trees. Trees don't always need to be cut, they can also be for decoration. Play an other campaign if you still don't got enough advice for terrain... Right, I'm not going to say anything about the story (main reason is, I didn't read it yet :P I'm gonna read it as soon as I've looked all other threads I've been subscribed to and then Edit this post when I've read it) -Fladian And here is the promised EDIT: I'll tell you a bit of my own advice for the terrain... SS1: Note the variation of tiles, I see exactly... None. No, wait, I'm lying, there are 2, there is a wall next to the houses, because of the tile wall, there are 2 tiles used. 2 Tiles for a rather big shot as this. That's just... plain bad, even for a city (cities and villages are my specialty, so...) ALL the houses are the same as well, try to make some variation of that as well. (ugh, that reminds me of a 192 x 192 map with only the same houses I made...) No further thought about it. SS2: Exactly same point as SS1, it has no variation of tiles, and that bit of grass, well, I don't exactly understand the use of it, normally terrain doesn't neccessarily have to have a purpose but this is just... weird. Though, I do admit, you gave me a little idea. SS3: One of the only decent shots, I take it as a garden, right? (Seeing as we were in a city and/or castle, impossible to see that, mostly you can't see it anyway, so take that as NOT possitive and NOT negative) Actually, there isn't much to say here, perhaps a little road through out the grass. But, yeah, well, maybe some potted plants or so... no real advice for this. Take that as a good thing ;) SS4: This is probably the worsest one of them all. The variation of tiles is killing me here! The houses are fine but ugh... I'll stick with just saying that. (Nice idea of the fountain, but personally I think you shouldn't use grass under it) SS5: Wow... I completely missed this one. It eh... well, nothing actually. I don't know what it is supposed to look like. So, I can't say much here. Anyway, high lack of variation. SS6: As a matter of fact, this one looks pretty good :D Considering that we'd had the worst. Because it is a shot for the mountain, I cannot give advice, it's good enough as it is. SS7: This is a decent (or good) shot as well. Since there isn't anything to show off, I cannot tell anything about it. If it was more like this, then it would be good. SS8: Sorry, I can't see much here. Just some blight, trees and felhounds. Once again, variation of tiles (I mean, some rock-tiles) and more doodads, like stones, flowers, shrubs, heck even a tree somewhere in the middle. SS9: Did I said we already had the worsest one? I take that back, I gladly say that this one is the worsest of them all, it really was a calmed before the storm. The tile you use in this one, if you look at it with a wrong light (like in my room) it'll hurt your eyes! At last, you showed some skill with the doodad-trees. But, too bad you didn't gone further then that. Anyway, the advice, I DEMAND that you use a variation of tiles! Some rocks, blight and other kind of doodads might be useful here too. I know a few terrainers, I'll send one this way to let him have his... oppinion, since you already had mine. Anyway, the story... The story is decent, not my taste but maybe those of others. If I got this straight, are these 4 different campaigns you've planned out? 1 campaign for each race? If so, then well... good luck :P I personally liked the first story but all of the others well... they weren't that good. Well, they were good, but not my taste. Well... yeah... -Fladian |

The terrain is, quite plainly. Aweful. What it reminds me of is a childs drawing of an aeroplane (metaphorically speaking) the kid knows that there are 2 wings on the plane, so he draws them both, and it ends up looking screwed. What i see here is somone doing the terrain and thinks "Cities have cobbled roads" and promptly leaves it at that. Variation of the tiles is the key. Just spamming 1 tile all over the place dont work, and looks plain bad. In cities it can be much more ordered, but you still need to vary tiles, in natural locations, such as forests however, you need to be very random. spray doodads all over the place (i'm a big fan of shrubs) make it look natural and random. If all else fails, look for pictures of something similar to what your trying to reproduce on the net, or even better, go and take a look for yourself. I spent 3 hours staring at a waterfall, sketching it and taking photos, then i came home and did a fcking amazing one in WC3, simply by replicating what i saw, then editing it. Terrain the way stuff DOES look, now how it SHOULD look. Nothing neat and tidy, breaks, cracks, rubbish all of this is needed. |

You sound like an old man telling 'that' kid to draw a plane :P j/k But seriousely, you do sound like the way I learned to terrain. Though that was a long time ago. But exactly like you said Pheonix, not everything in the world is straight. (Ever heard of a flat mountain? :P) "Nothing neat and tidy, breaks, cracks, rubbish all of this is needed." - Pheonix-IV -Fladian |

Okay, if I send a terrainer my campaign, they could assist me though, right? And no, its not that kind of campaign. You have a number of heroes and a number of maps, some with quests and some are glorified creeping sessions with story scenarios. Here is the list of heroes: Name: Ryu Class: Bounty Hunter Race: Human Skills: -Critical Strike -Cleaving attack -Bash -Attribute Bonus -Dragonheart (Ultimate) Bounty hunters are adept at killing the enemy swiftly, for if they don't defeat their enemy, they don't eat. Name: Yugiro Onedai (Yuge for short) Class: Mystical Slasher Race: Orc Skills: -Blizzard -Flame Strike -Chain lightnint -Atribute Bonus -Kiai (Ultimate) Mystical slashers use many different kinds of magic that they learned from reading books of magic and communing with the land. While having those three spells may make them SEEM broken, they will fall fast against heavy melee. Name: Luthien Windrunner Class: Ninja Race: Half Elf Skils: -Fan of Knives -ensnare -Poison Arrows (Current bug: Mana doesnt decrease) -Mirror Image -Evasion -Attribute Bonus Ninjas are swift and able to confuse enemies. Name: Tselner Robinson Class: Cleric Race: Human skills: -Holy Light -Battle roar -heal -Summon Water Elemental -Attribute Bonus -Tranquility Clerics are expert healers. During a great onslaught by demons, a cleric is a handy thing to have. Name: *******(sorry, spoiler) Class: Merchant Race: Forest troll Skills: -Profit Aura (Surrounding units get mor emoney when killing enemies) -Dire Strike (Merchant uses his spear to strike an enemy, stunning it. Some times, a spectral image of the spear is left lodged in the enemy) -Call In a favor: Summons 2 beings that owe the Merchant a favor of some kind -Attribute Bonus -(he needs another skill but I cant think of anything) Merchants are adept at bolstering the profitability of a quest, and are good warriors in their own right. Only these 5 are used in the campaign, except for one map where a Mountain King helps out. /// |

Oh, okay, but wouldn't it be better if they had custom spells? (Merchant excluded) For the merchant's other spell, maybe something like Stampede only with bag-horses (or whatever those things are called) -Fladian |
| 07-12-2004, 03:18 PM | #9 |
Bag horses....haha... Thats so crazy I'll do it. I'm serious! If I could find a modeller that can make the art for it I would make custom spells. Also, I have trouble getting each spell to do exactly what I want it to. (profit Aura is the only time I've ever resorted to trigger assisted spells...I HATE those, because then I have to import every fuggin trigger!) Further there seems to be a problem with imported files: Sometimes my campaign ceases to recognize them and I cant use them. Kiai, dragonheart and Poison arrows are custom. Later on, Ryu, Yuge and Luthien can become stronger versions of themselves and gain custom skills that are stronger than their old ones. (The upgrades are hidden and must be sought out) ALL have Extended Training (A stronger Attribute bonus) Yuge: Mjollnir = stronger chain lightning (Though I cant control how much damage, nor get the proper amount to display in the tooltip) Hellfire = stronger flamestrike (Though I cant control how much damage, nor get the proper amount to display in the tooltip) Absolute Zero = a stronger Blizzard (Though I cant control how much damage, nor get the proper amount to display in the tooltip) Power of The Horde = I want lightning, fire and stone to rain from the heavens and strike enemies, but I cant get the bugger thing to work the way I want it to work. Luthien: Knifestorm = stronger fan of knives Blackbelt Reflexes = stronger evasion 8 eyes = Mirror image but with 3 images, and the images actually cause damage. Aerial Shackles Ryu: Iaido = stronger critical strike Cleaving Attack 2 = stronger cleaving attack Endurance Aura Fury of stromgarde = (not working like i want) /// |
| 07-13-2004, 07:44 AM | #10 |
i dont think bash and critical strike work if the unit also has cleaving strike... |
| 07-13-2004, 08:42 AM | #11 |
It doesn't why shouldn't it work? It's not like they have much to do with each other. |
| 07-13-2004, 09:55 AM | #12 |
i think they like override each other, for the same reason certain spells dont stack i guess, cause they alter attack data. I'm reasonably sure that Cleaving Strike overrides bash and critical strike, but i'd have to test, and that means extra work. |
