Hello I am a amateur mapmaker and novelist looking for a group to get this project off the ground. To begin I should describe the map I suppose.... :D The map is my way of combining stratagy and roleplaying elements into one map. Each race has its own unique set of objectives to complete to win a match whereas they may still ally and work together. The map will be deep deep stuff. Lots of roleplaying opportunities and strategic elements combined with the need to micromanage each and every unit to make it effective. Each unit will have a hero inventory allowing them to carry and use items created by certain units, buildings, and heroes. Some races use a time based spawn system...infact most do. (think rw but more confusing than just building castles) For example. A high-Elf player builds a weaponsmith at Bardonna (a kind of mages guild) it will do nothing more than produce weapons. But combined with an armorer and a mages tower bardonna will produce Auramancers...a type of melee mage. Along with light mages inherant to the mages tower. Resources can be found or traded for. Each race has access to special trading units that can be loaded with items to be traded. These are bought at a trade depot. When the trader reaches its destination all of the items are converted to the desired resource. (you can send raw resources too by converting them to items in the depot.) The dragons and the dark forest are noticeable exceptions. The dragons lay eggs...an ability that produces an egg on the ground this egg produces a hatchling with the ability to grow into an adolescent after 240 seconds. Which can grow into an adult after 680 seconds. Which will grow into an ancient after 1870 seconds. (beleive me its well worth the wait.) This makes them produce exponentially as long as you keep them alive. But losing troops is more hard hitting for them. The dark forest's central tree produces tree seeds that can be plated to make a tree with a weak attack and low armor. (when killed they will drop wood.) Their spawns are based on the number of trees and the size of the forest. --------------------- That being said I will get into the story. The word this takes place on is one of many created by the order lords within the chaos streams, the most beautiful and deadly object in existance. Jyvvan created the streams at the request of his master who then created the order lords to care for it and preserve it. The order lords are constantly creating matrixes of pure allithium that can turn the power of the chaos streams against itself and sustain a world around it. This particular world is the first and for all the characters know the last...the other lords have long since left it to its destruction feeling it was unimportant. This world is in constant struggle between the races due to the Last of the Chaos lords to leave the world. Annissar he beleived himself to be doing the right thing...although he was clearly insane. He experimented with the magic of the matrixes and eventually split the races into different forms based on their mindset and overall personna. (exception being the dwarves and giants...they were far older and the dragons are older still) The story revolves around the three remaining individuals with the REAL power to change the world. Cirein Amakiir-(my creation) The last order lord on this world. He is quick witted and strong but arrogant to a flaw. He carries Evarell's Wish...a blade strengthened by the sacrifice of his father and mentor Evarell with the wish that he use it to destroy Deryll. He leads the High-Elves of Sorian and protects them before other races. His appearance is that of a tall high-elf and was raised as one. (a side effect of Annissar's spell... he is essentially a high elf in every way, his father, Evarell was changed and he inherited it.) Aerynn-(no last name) A chaos lord of no small power. he learned of his nature from the dragons during a short stay with them. He refuses to carry out his duties of a chaos lord and will even go so far as to defend the world for the sake of the few people he cares for. Deryll-(Bad bad man!) A fallen chaos lord and the brother of Aerynn he seeks nothing more than the end of time. He hold power over nothing...literally. He can remove people and objects from existance with little effort. He is also the leader of the orcs, who follow him as a god. ---------------- The nations! Sorian The high elves of Sorian fled the empire during the first invasion and set up their own kingdom under the leadership of Cirein. High-Elves are the most intelligent of the races save dragons and giants. They are more dextrous and quick than humans but not as much so as a wood-elf. They are as strong as any human and just as sturdy but they are fierce individualists and will scarcely work with other races save to do harm to Deryll. They employ magic purified by the matrix rather than magic taken directly from the chaos streams. They are the greatest threat to Deryll as a single nation but are also nearest to his dark Continent and will likely be in direct conflict with him from the beginning. The Iron-Elven Confederation. They are not known by any particular name but they are remnants of an empire that once held dominion over the entire peninsula jutting southeast from the dark forest. They are almost romanesque in their techniques and style and are very ordered and militaristic. They are shorter than High-Elves but slightly taller than most humans. They are strong and sturdy but not as dextrous or intelligent as the other elves. They are bordered directy with the ever-expanding dark forest and will likely be in conflict with them from the word go. The Goblins The goblins are split into three castes. One particularly intelligent class...they have little physical strength but are capable tinkerers. Another is large and strong...stronger than orcs if not as quick or quick witted. Another weak and weak willed class....not particularly strong nor quick witted but very numerous and very quick and dextrous. They are miners and traders during most times. Their leaders are intelligent and teir goods are in high demand. They have direct access to gold in their mines. Erosa The Erosans are famous warriors...cavalrymen without equal. They live and die by their horses and they also have the best horses available to the mortal races. They spent their lives perfecting their skills and will likely die on a horse. Their stables are constantly busy breeding horses for their own warriors and for other races. The Neutral Kingdoms There is little to be said about them...they are an amalgam of the original human nations from long before the mortal races split. Some are famous traders..some peaceful farmers...some warriors. They are versitile and numerous and are deadly when provoked. The Giants An ancient and powerful race. They are tall and deadly warriors standing some twenty feet tall on average although some are known to reach almost one-hundrded. They are strong and intelligent if not particularly fast. They are known for both their warriors and their spellcasters and are dead-set on stopping Deryll. Wood Elves of the Great Forest The forest is not known by any name to the other races...and the wood elves simply call it Eralli. In its center is a massive tree that hold power over them. The tree cares for them and for the forest and they share a link to it. When they are hurt...it is hurt. When it is hurt the elves will feel it. Wood elves are not particularly strong...but they are deadly worriors. They are the fastest of the mortal races and the most stealthy. They are capable of hiding in their forests without being seen and moving quickly and quietly in other areas. They are renowned for the bowmanship and produce the best bows available. Dragons An ancient race and a powerful one. They are guardians of the world and will stop at nothing to defend the final remaining matrix. The different varieties of dragon have different abilities and are bound only by their desire to protect the world. They are powerful opponents but weak in theit earlier stages. Killing a powerful adult or ancient dragon will severely hamper the unit production capacities of the dragons. But their numbers increase exponentially if left unchecked. Aerynn Aerynn is a loner.... His fortress in the frozen north is nigh unreachable save for a few who can find it. He leads the blademasters. Powerful warriors raised from birth to fight. Literally the epitomy of the perfect warriors. His nation is a small one...but a powerful one. He has no direct access to resources but can produce goods that other kingdoms would find very disirable. The Dwarves The Dwarves are miners and craftmen without equal. They have access to most resources save lumber from the word go. They are excellent warriors if not particularly gifted mages. They are neutral...and have no innate quarrell with the other races. They possess the hammer of Jyvvan and forge the best items in the land. The Dark Forest The Dark forest is a dismal place. Each tree is alive and capable of attacking. With each new tree the forest grows more powerful and deadly. It is continually expanding and will eventually become a force too great to stop if not kept in check. Many fell creatures dwell within. Crystal spiders, dark wolves, fallen dragons come to mind. It is the counterpart of the Great forest and its center is a tree of similar ability. Deryll (one bad mutha'...sorry had to break the mood) Deryll is the common enemy of everyone on the planet...even the dark forest. Where the dark forest seeks to control the world he seeks to remove it from existance...literally. He leads the orcs...a powerful race. They stand some seven feet tall and double the strength of most men or elves. And outnumber them as well. Deryll is a firece opponent but cannot trade...he is limited to destroying buildings, etc for his resources. --------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- I NEED HELP! This is complicated stuff...or rather there is alot of easy stuff. We need a modeler and a skinner...these races just wont work otherwise. We need people to help with balance issues. We have great need for testers after we finish things up. We need...feedback. Will this type of map have any support? |

Not even a single reply. I feel bad. Maybe I wrote too much. |
| 07-17-2004, 07:09 AM | #3 |
Nah, I doubt you really wrote too much. Or at least, not for me, I like much reading :P Anyway, it seems you're pretty new here so... Moddelers are pretty rare to get nowadays. You'd better make a start without a moddeler. It IS good to hear that you are able to do some stuff yourself since you aren't really asking for a specific terrainer or triggerer. Anyway... Since you're new.. This project might be too high grippen for someone who is pretty new. The story and stuff sounds okay (I've seen better) but... the thing the people got to do in this... 'game' isn't told. Well... I'm too tired to give a large err... explanation of what I exactly mean so sorry. -Fladian |

Well...I was paraphrasing and it does seem I left out thew obgectives for each race. The story is based on a set of novels a friend and I are working on...I really dumbed it down for the map because alot of the wc3 community doesn't appreciate deep stories. (I need some people for literary critique on the novel btw if you really like reading) The map was meant to bump up interest in the series and create a following before we actually finish the set and find a publisher. I've been really busy lately though...so little progress has been made on either the map or the novels. Regardless. I'll post the objectives after I've had a good long nap...just finished my two week band camp. 12 hours a day for two weeks...bad. I didn't know there was a 8am. |

I have no problems of for reading the novel if neccesary, though I am rather busy this summer. That puts me aside from everything I was planning of doing...*sigh* it really is my luck isn't it? Anyway, even though not *everyone* may appreciate deep stories, some people do, people like me as example. Anyway you could give it in a post the story in a nutshell or something. Just try to make it as short as possible, it would surely grab the attention of people who might be interested, those which are interested will also read the larger part later. I guess... It seems everyone is busy lately... Anyway, welcome back from your two-week-band-camp. -Fladian |

This one time at band camp.... We took the flutes and we....... BAH.... Lol Anyways, sounds neat, Multiplayer map? Cuz if it is, Be ready to face the death of slow and laggy computers with your enormous map with models and skins.... Yeah. And what can you do? I can tell you're an avid storywriter and that was good, and you got some pretty cool ideas, but what can you do mapmaking wise? Ok, enough with the "bashing" I really like the idea, it sounds like old LotR maps with a bitchload of features. It seems you have lots of perfectionist in you and attention to detail and I admire that, and welcome you to the forums. If you continue to be that detailed, I am sure lots of people will be interested once progress is shown. If you need any help, I am pretty awesome at triggering, and can come up with some concepts if you need em'. If you want to PM or something here's some contact details. Aol: AmericanPigGuy Yahoo: LaminatedCheese Email: [email protected] I prefer Aol, but whatever And Fladian, every post I see, you got a reply on it, and despite anyone who flames you, I think you are one of the best things on these boards because of all the feedback and stuff you give people. I know when I start threads just getting a reply encourages me. So Right here I just wanted to thank you, and start my touching moment. Void-Renegade doesn't understand helpfulness. BASH-TARDS Anyways, Yeah...... |

As long as someone appreciates it I'll go ahead and write abit. To keep you from getting confused...there are two novels before the time period of this map. The first covers the collapse of the Iron-Elven Empire and the first orcish invasion. This leads to Nermill (the final remaining High-Elven city on the peninsula) being attacked. Cirein fled the city with his friend and trainer Bestere and an Archon by the name of Tsion. Bestere is shot by a bounty hunter and destroyed in a blast of energy fired by Tsion. After sailing to Bardonna the group heads to Soria, Evarell's nation of High-Elves that had fled the empire. Evarell decides to create a new matrix on Soria...where he beleives it will be better defended. Cirein trains under the Edgerunner Lorell in the meantime. (approximately four years. The orcs hav'nt found the island yet) Evarell sends Cirein and the entire Archon corps to hold Deryll at Bardonna while he finishes the remaining matrix. (Deryll beleives the matrix is at bardonna...he has been systematically destroying well defended cities for a long time) Alberas is there, having fled with the remainder of the Dawning legion with the aid of the Light-mages at bardonna. After some study they discovered how to forge the weapons that sealed away Annissar the chaos lord that split the races within the sword Aeryn carries in the next book. After a one sided battle Deryll attempts to fight the Dawning legion directly...they are holding the only landing spot on the island and they showed no signs of losing soon. Deryll takes a thrust in the chest from Alberas after killing off half of the Dawning Legion. However, being a fell chaos lord it had an opposite effect on Deryll causing a backlash of magical energy that literally removed a large portion of the island from existance along with all the Dawning Legion and all the orcs. Cirein arrived in time to see Deryll escape and atempted to chase him but Deryll teleported away. Cirein returned to Soria to find Evarell had failed in creating a new matrix and had sealed himself within the core of the alithium crystal he had used. Evarell pleaded for Cirein to destroy Deryll and sacrificed himself, transfering his power to Cirein's sword. Cirein vowed to kill Deryll at any cost. The second covers the distruction of Aeryn's village and his growth into an adult. He discovers his true nature from the only remaining ancient red dragon and decides to defend the matrix enstead of destroying it as a chaos lord should...every matrix is a strain on the chaos stream. He also took the sword Annissar's fall from the dragon's cave, and he carries it with some pride. He defends it for the sake of his friends. The Iron-Elves oranize into a loose confederation and follow Aeryn and the blademaster's lead. In a final battle of the book Cirein leaves the scene after refusing to take orders from Aeryn's friend. The remaining army faces Deryll's orcs and fights a losing battle. Cirein attacks from the rear and Aeryn wounds Deryll. When Deryll flees the orcs run...they worshipped Deryll as a god and to see him run was...demoralizing. -----I know less about this one because my friend created Aeryn and wanted to write this book. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall its an open field at this point. Deryll had recovered. Cirein leads the most powerful single non-evil nation on the planet but has severe logistical problems. Aerynn has retreated to his fortress in the north, and leads a small but capable nation. The Iron-Elven confederation has gained in power but lacks resources, they are cut off from the mainland by the dark forest. The neutral kingdoms continue to multiply...there are alot of them...even if they arnt so strong. Goblins and dwarves stay hidden in their caves...although they are the single most powerful ecenomic forces on the planet. (and goblins can produce gunpower with the right resources.) The wood elves changed little...they were hardly involved with the first two invasions. The giants are a dying breed...as are the dragons. Powerful as they are there are too few of them. ------------------------------------------------------------------ But.....I'm just paraphrasing. And i know the story needs tweaking! |

Hey, at least someone is willing to help now Cirein, glad to hear people are at least interested ;) Quote:
AnuzLazer, I like this part of the forum so I post a lot here, a small 6 posts a day in this part of the forum, by average of course. Anyway, thank you for the compliment, but I am only doing my best, and I would like seeing other people doing the same. If you like what I do, glad to hear, but I will offer my apologie personally for my recent-outburst in Void's thread... not my style of doing. But hey, I got a damaged arm, so I am forbidden to type much, especially when I just wake up. Noticable how I always fall off-topic too, like now. Uhhum... I wanted to go to sleep... -Fladian EDIT: Cirein, I'll read your post tomorro... eh... later. I'm too tired to understand any word at the moment :P But hey, I'm still able to answer the weirdest kind of things, but reading some things... hmm... |

AHHA, I'm saying Fladian I don't blame you for outburting on Void, he was pretty crazy, you stated a fact, and he bashed you for giving feedback, you still said good luck and everything. I try to do that, but I sort of have ADD or something and I can't really post in every thread cause I get waaay to bored. But anyways, Cirein (Can I call you something else that's damn hard to say; so is anuslazer but it's old I'd like to change but ehhh whatever) Story's nice and all, but I don't even quite understand what your doing here, there's so much story, it sounds like a campaign, can you explain exactly what your trying to do without writing me a novel (In which, I mean no offense, cause they are good). Thanks |

I still consider it an outburst of myself AnusLazer, I usually try to act as polite as I am able to, without losing my temper. I lost my temper once, when Warcraft III Discussion was being the largest 'Flame' part of the forum. But that was a long time ago. Glad to see someone else has problems with Cirein's name as well :P when it comes to names, I'm really bad with them. Anyway, a promise to you Cirein, I'll read it... later. |
| 07-27-2004, 10:14 PM | #11 |
Ya well I try to be polite too, just that multiple acting ADD kicks in and boom! :D But yeah, I'm not good with roleplaying and whatnot names, just confuses me. I always hated roleplaying and stuff just cause of the +1's and stuff, Going from diablo to Neverwinter confused me cause on D2 You had every stat in front of you, on NWN you look at it, and your like WTF IS +1!?!?!?! Where is my 450% enhanced damage!? Yeah anyway, offtopic :D |
| 07-27-2004, 10:18 PM | #12 |
Well, I rather pick D&D and RPG's farly above anything else. Also including the editing here on wc3c. But that's just my personal taste... Anyway, you're right, we're offtopic. If you feel like continueing the... eh... conversation, write either a PM or create a Off-Topic-Thread in the Off-Topic-Section. Consider this the post with the most said "Off-Topic" :P I really need to go to bed :P Stop posting so much AnusLazer ;) I always want to reply but I also want to sleep... (ooooh, RotD is at 21% download oooh... 22% now... oooh 23% now) |
| 07-27-2004, 10:53 PM | #13 |
Cirein, I guess you went somewhere but I am still waiting on a reply, you were quick on the other one, but ehhh little slower this time heh, unless your typing some ass-long post that takes an hour. heh |
| 07-28-2004, 09:16 PM | #14 |
I never knew you guys actually sat around and waited for the replies. :D I've been checkig in every day and reposting with something that answeres it all. (or trying rather) Well. The map starts at the begginning of the third book, and we don't have a storyline for it yet...so we want to make a balanced map to see what people can do with the capabilities of each race...basically a brainstorming idea, since we have a complete lack or desire to sit around and think about this. Regardless, each race has its own means of troop production, etc. The idea is to simulate each race and the main characters and how they could influence the story. Also, it will be a great way to beef up the interest in the series. (we plan to write it all and release it as one set.) The goal is to create a balanced map, and hopefully realistic so I can pull ideas for the novels. |
| 07-29-2004, 12:18 AM | #15 |
I dont wait for the replies, I just refresh my e-mail every now and then, and that time I was doing it constantly cause I needed a break from the third person shooter map I am making, which BTW, I had a great shooter breakthrough in triggers today which is amazing. Anyways, I still don't get what your talking about, No offense, but I don't give a shit about your novels or storyline, I wanna know what your planning to do on the map and the basic concept of gameplay on the map, I know you can write stories, but what are you going to do to progress the map in means of terrain, triggers, spells? Ok, the only thing I understood was you wqant each race to have different means of troop productions. So, we're having all these nations spread out, and the player is making troops according to the race's "production methods", then killing everyone else unless their on the team? or do you want people to have triggered events according to the story or what!?!?!? and how do you expect the map to be realistic when your talking all this chaos lord streams? I don't care the fact that your using us ^_^ to pull ideas for your novels, but you say that we have a lack of desire to think of ideas, I don't understand why you say we, I don't even know what were doing yet, your the one that wanted to make the map, your desire should be strong and you should be able to think of this stuff. If this reply sounded like a big flame-fest, it is not meant to be, it is just a figment of my frustration on how I am getting nowhere on understanding this. Thanks :D |
