Spells with same base ability.

I have many spells that are all based off a single base ability. They are essentially "ghost" abilities that do basically nothing asides from designating a target/area that the trigger uses. The problem i am having is that when the hero has two (or more) abilities with the same base, the triggers cant differentiate between the spells, and whats more, when one is casted, they all go into "cooldown" mode.

Is there a way around this ASIDE form basing them off different abilities? (due to the nature of my map and the amount of spells i cannot do this).

I know this is not a new problem, it is mentioned in several places on this site, but i cant seem to find even the most complicated solution to this.

>>Im using umswe 4.0 at the moment, if i need 4.1 please specify.

Edit, fixed the problem directly below my post.

Well, for the base ability use the ability channel its under Neutral Hostile -> Heroes.
With this ability, you modify what type of target you want, whether it be unit, point, or AoE. You can modify pretty much everything about it. Someone said they used this as the base ability for SEVERAL triggers abilities, and this is completely true, channel can be used as a base for several different abilities, its the perfect base ability.

If you bump into any problems using channel as the base ability just leave a reply here and I'll try and fix it for you. I'm currently using channel as the base ability for 6 custom abilities on my map.

You mean dummy abilities; at least thats what abilities that have no direct use are most commonly referred to as.

This is caused by the spells having the same orderstring.

The only way to fix any of the problems would be to base them off different abilities or use Channel as was previously suggested.

I dont see the why you dont want to base the spells off different abilities if theyre dummy abilities. As long as theres no buffs then you shouldnt have any problems.

I based two abilities off Channel, (see end of post) but neither of them appeared on the hero, I tried two ways, making it a levelable ability and giving to to my hero with obj editor (like normal abilities), I also tried to give it to him using the trigger: "Unit - Add Ability to Unit". Neither of them worked, in the former, The spell appeared in the add skill point box but never appeared in any of the spell slots. The same happened with the latter (trigger), it never appeared.

What am i doing wrong? (UMSWE 4.0)

The only stats of the Channel spell I changed are:
Art: Icon/Normal/Turn Off = Absorb Mana <normal>
Text: Hotkey = S
Text: Name = Summon Creature
Text: Tooltip Normal/Extended = Summon Creature

Surely this should work?

Channel has a Show UI property that is off as standard. Switching that on will make the ability visible.

Hey dude, you can just change the base ID of a dummy spell to a spell you will never use. It acts like basing it off another spell but it retains all your data. Im not sure if you can change the base ID in regular World Editor. I use WEU and i recommend it.

I'm using WEU, i don't see any options to change the base id of most spells (apart from spell book and channel)

I think I read somewhere that in the new patch you can have multiple base abilities on 1 hero. I'm not sure where I saw this, so I'm gonna go look around.

EDIT: I looked on the Blizzard website, but I did not see anything. Now I am wondering how I came about this information.... :\

It actually also works with charge gold and lumber in the neutral section of abilities.
