Before I start wasting what little time I have on something that won't work, and after searching the forums and finding nothing relevant, I'd like to know if anyone has used the spellbook ability and found out whether or not it: - uses the mana costs of the spells in it? (I've heard yes, I've heard no) - can be engineering-upgraded? I'd gladly test it myself but I won't see better than a P133 for the next two weeks. :/ |

it uses teh mana cost of the spell you use.. aka book has Fire ball 20mp heal 40mp if you use fireball it will use 20 mp not 40mp or 60mp Engineering - upgraded you can upgrade the complete spel.. and im sure everything can be engineer upgraded.. |

I dont think you can engineer-upgrade the spells in the spellbook, though I havent tested this yet. However you can upgrade the spell book itself by engineering. |

I found this quite annoying but certain passive spells( auras in particular) "leak" out of the spellbook when added in it for a reason stil unknown to me. Basiicaly, if you add an aura to a spellbook ability, it will jump out of the spellbook and add it to your heros ability inventory. :< ~HarshaTeja~ |

Why would you put an aura *in* a spellbook? It's not a usable ability. You could just add the ability to the item. |

You *can* upgrade spells in a spell book, but it's limited. This goes back a few patches to when I was still doing warcraft mapping stuff, so I don't know how current it is, but you make the ability a unit ability with levels and give it an upgrade and then you can use triggers to upgrade the spell. However, I had a big spellbook with like 8 spells in it and after i did a certain number of upgrades it started to not work anymore inexplicably. So, yes you can do it, but not sure to wat extent. |

Actualy i have a good reason. In my Red Star map, when you enter space, you are inflicted with a negative aura that makes you slower and lessens your regen rate. Yes i could do this with dummy units and spells but using those makes the game lag at the very begining much like dota allstars and i want to avoid that. THe problem is, each hero has 5 leanable abilities and 1 ability called space manual which has info on the game. Every page included information and the art was all the same. When you enter space, a negative aura is implemented onto you that is disgised as a page in your manual. This was the only way i knew to make an invisable icon. So, theres reason why you'd want to use it. I bet you could htink of more if you tried Panto. ~HarshaTeja~ |

The spellbook abitlity is not the most trustworth of all the extensions inwarcraft, but CAN be used well if done correctly. Have you ever considered making all the spells in the book roughly as good and then giving a cost for only OPENING the book and casting one spell for free? its a good alternative to just messing around with manna csts and leaks. |
