Hello, Im having trouble with the ability Root and Uproot, the ability that you would see on an Ancient Protector in standard Warcraft 3. Im trying to make a Tower that can Uproot, move around, and then Root again. The problem is that as soon as I build this Tower, the game immediately closes and I get an error message called Fatal Exception or something. o_O Can anyone help me find out how I can make a tower that can move around like an Ancient Protector? THANKS! :D |

Units with root can't have movement or something like that. The best way to do this is to just copy both versions of the ancient protector and work from there. Keep in mind that you'll have to change the unit dependency values for the root ability. |

He means your not able to do what you want by creating a new unit and giving it uproot and root, and you should use "ancient protector - rooted" and "ancient protector - uprooted" as base units. not true however, i've done it in an older racemod (creating a new unit and giving it root). i think the mistake you made is not creating the unit it becomes when it uproots. root is like metamorphosis, it changes the unit type to one in the ground or a moveable type. the only problem you get when not basing on the ancient protector is that when your building/unit is rooted, it can still turn. if you set a rally point the building will turn that way - that looks kinda ugly. so yeah, i think it's best to use the ancient protector's 2 forms as base units. oh and if you want it to have no attack, you can do 2 things: or pick protector and remove attack, or (easyer way) just pick a building without a (primary) attack; ancient of war, ancient of lore, name it. I hope you get that, good luck. Mozared |

Take a look at the Root ability. It no longer actually turns the unit unless you enable that in the ability. Since TFT, the Protector has a bone that he rotates on (modelspeak) instead of turning the whole model. Similarly, you can change whether attacks are enabled in different forms, and even what kind of armor it has while uprooted. As far as I know, the thing that causes the game to crash that pertains to Root is if you try to give it to an object that is neither an Ancient nor a Structure. Go to the unit classification and see if Ancient is checked, and then go to "Stats - Is a Building" and make sure it's true. Actually, there is one other thing that crashes it. The unit needs to have a foot movement type and a movement speed. Don't worry, when Rooted he still won't move. |
