.GIF file conversion

I have a .gif (take note. .gif . .GIF . That does NOT say .anything-other-than-.gif) pic that i wanna eventually end up as a .blp, so I was wondering how to convert it to one of the following (WITHOUT PSP OR PS): .jpg, .tga, or .bmp . I don't want to mess around with the file in case it gets corrupted. Can I load it up in a simple Paint program to change it? I do have the GIMP, but the only person who I know for sure uses it is AFZ(I think his name is). If anybody could tell me how to make this conversion, I would be very grateful.

I don't have Gimp, so this is purely speculation and looking at screenshots of it on their website. You'll need to do three things, basically: Open the .GIF, add an alpha channel, color the alpha channel white, save as TGA.

Go to File->Open and choose your GIF.
You should see a window with the title 'Layers, Channels, and Paths'. Click the 'Channels' tab at its top.
Click the 'New Channel' button, which is on the bottom of that window.
Activate the paint bucket tool, choose a white color, and paint on that channel. It should turn white.
Go to File->Save as and hope TGA is listed under the available types.

From there, just used Wc3 Viewer to convert to BLP.

hmmm.... I did what you said, made a new channel and coloured it white, and saved it as a .tga file (there was a TGA file extension, thank god) but when I went to extract it, it found the file, saved it, but couldn't load it up as a .tga. It says that CloakofBlueFlames.tga is not a TGA file. ummm, wtf? lol. Would it work if I changed it to a .bmp or .jpg file? I would imagine the convert would have a better chance at working. Or should I have changed the background colour in the channel to white, and not just coloured it white?

Did it come up with any options when you said to save as a TGA?
And can you post a picture of your channels window?
Uploading your unsuccessful TGA might also be helpful.

I don't see what you mean by that... As long as you got the channel white somehow, it should be fine.
