Hello all im new here and wanted to start making models, I have gmax and a tiny bit of experience with the tutorial provided with it, I wanted to start doing some Geo Merges and then MDL editting and after getting into the serious stuff of making models from stratch, now can gmax be used for making models on wc3? also I wanted to know what other programs I will be needing, I dont know if this is the right place to post this but I really want to start on modelling, it seems fun and some of the models I have seen here I love, you people know well what you are all doing which is a good thing to see. If someone can answer my question and show me to the proper programs needed to get me started it will be well appreicated, thank you. |

gmax CAN be used to make models for wc3 but it's not as effective as for example 3ds max 5. Since the dex exporter which is supported is very buggy and only a few models has been successfully exported with it. There are plenty tutorials in this forum and in the tutorials section. Just look around and you'll find what you need. |

Okay thanks, what other programs do you think are better then gmax? I know of 3Ds Max and something called Wings? I dont have a great deal of money to blow on things like this, is there anything I can get thats better then gmax and works fine with Wc3? |

Modeling without 3DS Max, is like Modding without TFT. Try some of Oinkerwinkle's programs, he's the man to look for when wishing to get into MDL editing Saint. http://www.geocities.com/oinkertools/download.html |

I figured out why how Dre got his to work... (assuming he had the same problem as me) He said he used bits from another install he had, the demo, I think... anyhow - the installer could not unpack two files; one minor thing and the 8th of the 8 'pack things' - I manually tried to unpack them but they wouldn't budge... all you'd need to do is get these files from somewhere and put them in folder PS. I can send the disc on to someone else in future if you want |
