Greetings. The team that would have brought you The Tolkien Legacy has now begun work on another project, this time a more RPG-style campaign. From the ashes of our previous campaign has arisen a new campaign known as The Champions of Valen`Gard. This campaign will consist of entirely new concepts, including our own world. Everything about this project is composed of our own ideas. Below is a list of needed positions and methods to apply. Countless hours of time have been put into organising this campaign information and we hope you'll take the time to read through it all before rejecting our request. The following is as much information as we have created so far, so please take a minute to scan through it. If you would rather see this information in a more oganised manner, please visit our website at www.valengard.tk Summary of the Story The following is a brief summary of the insanely complex story we plan to implement in our project. Please note, this is only a small fraction of the history of Valen`Gard, but very important to the project nonetheless. In the beginning, there existed only one being. This being was known as Xol - creator and destroyer of all. Xol was a Crystalid - a being that takes on the shape of a gem-like object and cannot move. Xol brought forth the first life - that of Humans and Elves. Together they lived in harmony until one fateful night, when a flaming object known as Tanos collided with Valen`Gard, shattering the main landmass, Guardia, into many pieces. With it came corruption, plague, and disease. Out of the Elves came the Dark Elves. The planet's rotation slowed, thus producing Dwarves. For eons Men and Dark Elves fought for power, until at last a great war erupted. With their supreme weapons, the Humans destroyed nearly every last one of the corrupted Elves. The greed of Men became so overwhelming that Xol was forced to create an even more supreme race: the Merkava. The Merkava were much like humans, though taller and their intellect was many times that of the humans. From their paradise in the heavens they controlled the races of Valen`Gard, until the time came for evolution to change course. Lunatar, the spiritual and governmental leader of the Merkava, soon learned that with his power, he could himself possess the very root of existence: the Xol Crystal. Lunatar and his minions hunted to the ends of the land for the origin of the Xol Crystal, until at last they found the cavern of its birth. Upon contact with the Crystal, all existence was not lost as was expected. Instead the skies changed color, the land changed shape, and the constant flow of energy throughout Valen`Gard known as Geo was broken. Dark Elves once again rose to power. Humans became even more greedy. But what could have possibly happened to Xol to cause this change? It seemed the answer lied in the hands of the remaining pure beings in Valen`Gard. Among their ranks were eight brave heroes, seemingly destined to seek out answers. Fated to return the land to its natural state. Their ultimate goal: to become The Champions of Valen`Gard. Chronological History of Valen`Gard This is a list of the main events of the history of Valen`Gard. Some things have been left out so as not to ruin the story. So much work and information, so little chance of it ever being completed. Maybe you have better chance of joining an existing team. |

Why do you say that? I don't think there's anything that will at stop us from at least trying =p. Sure, I can't see the future, either. But what's the point in any project if that's true? Nearly everything here is very possible to create with the World Editor's current objects, therefore time is all we need. If everyone thought like you do, there would be no TToR, no CotD or any other mods that have as great of ambition as we do. Our goals are high because our quality is high. If we can do good work, what's to stop us from pushing it to the limit? |

Every great team started somewhere. This just so happens to be our genesis. Thanks for your.... input.. though. |

Heh, one more failed LotR project :P Concept sound's HUGE tough as Jester already said. Definately too big.. But I still like the concept. |
| 07-24-2004, 03:36 PM | #6 |
This isn't all part of what we could call a concept. The timeline and the story is just background information, which makes the world more plausible. There is a lot, because we have planned ahead, but if you take a big campaign which is out, and list all its new elements, I'm sure it will make a similar list. The extra work that will have to be done, compared to a standard campaign will probably just be some extra character models, and doodad textures and models. It will have around 8-10 maps, 8 heroes and will use most warcraft heroes, units, tilesets and doodads. If you think about it, it isn't actually larger than other campaigns, but we have it all already planned, that is what makes it seem larger. DeSty |

Yeah yeah we've seen it all before. Finish the campaign at 60% then ask for help, nobody is going to take this enormous task seriously otherwise. |

Hey Jester, comments like that are what discourage and piss people off. If that's all you have to say, then better not to post here. As for my position on this: First of all, we haven't told you a thing about the campaign except for the story and how many maps. All the rest is just history and things to see. How does 10-12+ maps and a story constitute a "HUGE concept"? Take a look at some of these other campaigns, they are far larger than this. There is nothing in here that makes this campaign any longer or more impossible than your average projects. Now if this list is too long and complex for you to understand that it's just background and not actual game information, then perhaps you should be posting elsewhere instead of cluttering up a thread with comments that make no sense, especially when you didn't get the half of what I posted in the first place. |

Even though I'm not fond on it, I must agree with Jester. You're right Jarin, usually such posts disencourge people, BUT many people, (including people I know) usually take their chances by just seeing how long the post is. If the post is long, or at least something like this, they see it right away as a large, hard project. Though just like this case, if you look closely... no, if you just read it you'll notice that the project isn't too large at all, but has a lot of background information and the like. I on the other hand, I enjoy reading, I'm a fast reader so I can easily go through that post of yours. Anyway, what in the world am I talking about? :P Anyway Jarin, next time you post a thread, put the most important things at the upper or bottom part and give a note with fat or BIG letters (or heck, even with a color) that you're going to background information. It encourages some people to read more or read at least the BIG information part. You also might want to tell how much progress you already made, or even some work you finished. It's only by coincedence I know a bit about you Jarin, but not everyone knows about you, so you might want to show what you can do. Anyway, I can't and I won't join up because I can't do the things you asked for and even fi I could I wouldn't join up. I have waaay too much work on my hands right now... Thanks for your time -Fladian |

Thanks for your input, Fladian. Finally someone who understands what we're doing. As for physical material, we have very little. This campaign is very much still in the process of concepting, but to do that we need to have our first maps done to gather ideas for improvements and such, hence the need for all the positions I listed. Perhaps you're right, I should have cleaned the thread up more before posting. Either that, or people just need to read more carefully, like you. Anyhow, thanks again. |

I wanna join, even if the project does sound to big to some. I really like all the information that's been givin. |

FrostCyrus, what are you best at? Desty |
| 07-26-2004, 05:39 AM | #14 |
Uh, I've done most everything that has to do with mapmaking (except for modeling/animating). I think I'm best at Skinning/making icons (at least it's the funnest thing I like doing.) |

Ok. Please contact either Desty or I on MSN Messenger, so we can talk a bit more. Our e-mails are listed in the first post. |
