Cliff city and Tauren city

I challenge all expert terrainers to create a city on a cliff. Now what I mean by this is that is not on the land above the cliff, but on the cliff itself.

I also challenge you to make a Tauren city.

I did a Tauren City. Its above a cliff, as on a cliff sounded like a lot of work for a not too spectacular result.

And TiJiL made the model, and yes, they're really cool.

Here is my interpretation of this "Cliff City"! I enjoyed making it even though I spent only an hour or so.

Timeline? Erm... Not one of my favorite movies, but it was cool seeing the Apocalypse and all! The story itself... especially the part in the distant future seems... pretty strange. :\

What did you do to make the log bridge on the cliff?

Okay, I wrote up a discription of the cliff city:

The perspective from above is where the river comes from the south and drains into the Ocean/lake at the top.

The shell-like structures have the shape of a muscle shell. long and slender, being thiner at the bottom and much wider at the top. (Think of the things from Time Machine)

Looking from above, there are farms and whatnot above on the flatlands. The wandering animal herds also provide the Tauren and others with the enjoyment of The Hunt. Upon the areas just above the canyon walls, there are Tauren tents and civil buildings. Since Tauren like the more free feeling of being in the open, they are here. They cannot stand to be in the tunnel and caverns longer than they must. There are great walls that protect the entraces to the city on either side. There are steps carved into the canyon walls that lead down to the first layer of walkways and the like. There are also Shell-like constructions (think Time Machine. I would post a pic, but I can't find one...) that are built on to the sides of the canyon. These are mainly homes and also they are good defencive positions for taking out air attacks.

Looking at the left canyon wall, there are the steps on the far right side, with the paths also carved into the rock. There are wooden paths that lead around dangerous passes, and peices of rock that could not be taken away. There are quite a lot of the shell-like structures, and they vary in size. There are a number of cavern entrances that contain blacksmiths and shops carved into the interior. Farther down the caverns lead into one enormous room. This is the colloseum of sorts. The far right wall is close enough to the edge of the cliff that there are windows looking out over the ocean. These are, naturally, the most expensive seats.

Looking at the right canyon wall, there are more steps, but to the far right side. the paths are also carved into rock, with wooden paths goign around the trecherous rocks that could not be taken out. There are still more of the shell-like structures, and the entrances to the caverns. However, on this side there are no blacksmiths, but a few shops. There are two minor arenas that are reserved for people if they want to duel each other. There are also inns of the sort inside the caverns. One of the inns is quite large, and has most of it's rooms on the cliff facing the Ocean. they have windows, and some have porches that, if one is brave enough, people can sit on and gaze. Also in this side of the canyon, there are religious centers. There is a Druid's grove close to the surface, with it's top exposed to the air. However, people cannot drop down into it to raid, for it is protected with magic, and those that try, and immediatly bounced out. There are also minor areas where those of differnt faiths can go to pray and practice their religion. For the mages of the Horde, there is a semi-church of sorts. Though not an actual church, it is the Hordes take on it. There is also a room where water flows freely through it, and Tauren and Orcs can sit and meditate to talk with their ancestors.

On the river there is a great dock. There is only one, on the left side facing the Ocean. However, it can certainly hold many boats. It is mainly used for trading, but it is sometimes used for travel. The dock is shaped in a sheild type of way. It has a point at the end facing upriver, so that the strong currents flow around it instead of trying to push it into the Ocean.

NOTE: The shell structures DO NOT have to be in the city. That was just something cool I thought could be in it. You can add them if you want.

Description:

EDIT: This city is basically a 'map' of sorts for a RP Hrode city we're creating over at www.WoW-RA.com. Please don't let this discourage you from doing it! I want to see if you guys are up to the challenge anyway ;).

Aspect: The river is coming from the South of the map to the North. The northern part of the river opens into an Ocean.

Looking at the City from above, you see the land above the cliffs is mostly plains that has been settled for farming and hunting. There is one main path that leads to a path going down the cliff to the rest of the City. (Both sides are like this) These buildings are mainly Tauren, since they prefer the flat lands and not cliffs. There is a bridge spanning the cliff to connect both sides. There are towering walls that encompass the farming areas with go right to the edge of the cliff.
The right side of the plains above is unique. There are still the farms and the like, except now there is a large park/garden. Within this garden there are druids and shaman (Tauren) who are worshipping their ancestors and nature. These gardens are composed of many flowers and plants from all over Azeroth.

Looking at the left cliff directly on, one sees many buildings form each of the races. There is an assortment of spirit lodges and orc housing (pig farms are what they look like). There are many levels to the wooden paths that are supported by rock and wood struts coming from the cliff. There are blacksmiths shops that are half carved into the rock and half built out of wood (basically a blacksmith placed with part of it inside the rock). There is one main cavern entrance on the second level down. Inside this there is a long line of shops built out of wood and stone. Then, this long cavern leads to an arena under the land. This arena is huge, with a large collumn in the middle to support the land above it.

Looking at the right cliff directly on, it is about the same thing as the left cliff, except with a much different arrangement. There are still the cluttered walkways of buildings. However, now there are many more houses, and less shops. This is mainly the residential area. There are two caverns, one on the second level down and one on the third level down. The first cavern is a long path sloping down to a large cavern. Within this is a marketplace of sorts. Along the path leading down are more homes, except they're mainly Undead homes. The second cavern leads upward a little to this same room. It is a large circle that has shops and the like setup around the large pillar in the middle -- again this is to support the wieght above -- and around the outsides. Towards the far end of the circle is an entrance to an Undead citadel devoted to their worship of their twisted arcane magic and the like. Around the outside are more Undead homes.

Looking at the river, there is a wide walkway going to the opening to the Ocean. This leads to a harbour. It is here that many dock to trade and the like.

Is it possible to do a city like that one Native American Tribe in the dessert where they carved into a cliff and built homes on the inside made of adobe. They used ladders to climb up and into their homes and whenever there was danger or something they would bring their ladders back up. I don't remember it very well but it was something like that. I believe it was the Anasazi. I'm trying to find a good screenshot. I don't think you can carve into the cliff tool or using the raise terrain to 90°. I suppose you could use doodads like the destructable rocks or the ruinsish rocks, and set them up on top and below with the city on the inside.

Here is as good a picture I could find right now.

Hmmmm, you could try. Though if there were just a city like what med created it'd be cooler I think.

I think Runemane wants it to look somewhat like the post-apoc. town in Time Machine, were there are bridges connecting building to building and a few exits to get out of canyon and bridges stretching to the other side of canyon too.
