Help with special effects

I'm not that great with the WE so please bear with me ;/

I made an aura using vexorian's template system and I want to put a special effect on it.

I tried putting the tome of retaining effect on it, but it goes away when the animation is done, so the question is - Is there anyway to make a special effect that stops after the animation, to stay on the target or "loop" the animation?

No.

All SFX are tagged as <Missile>, <Effect>, <Target> or <Caster> or <Special>. (might be a couple tags i missed). EFFECT type SFX tend to have a birth and death animation, but no stand animation. What that means if that any EFFECT type SFX will disappear after playing once.

The same might be true of <CASTER> type SFX, I'm not sure.

Anyways, the bottom line is, some SFX are simply not built to hang around and the only way to make them do that is to either repeatedly apply the SFX to the unit or get someone to edit the SFX's animation for you.

It bears being added that pretty much any model with a "stand" animation will stick around. Any model without a "stand" animation won't. You can see what animations a model has by opening up the model field in the spell, buff, unit, doodad, or whatever, and then looking at the Preview box in the main WE window. It shows the model that you have open and allows you to see what animations it has.
