How can you be taught terrain? Just look at tips on this site, keep redoing terrain until it looks good. I bet you just tried once and it was no good. Just keep going at it, use imaginative doodads and use appropriate terrain tiles. |

Terrain isnt something you can learn, its a gift some people were born with :D . Na j/k but if you seriously wanna learn to terrain here are some good exersises: 1.)Find a picture of enviornmet, indoors outdoors and try to make a terrain to look as close as it can to it. 2.)Look at other peoples post at this Terrain Forum or any other wc3 forum on terrain and take some notes on what they've done. 3.)Try not to give up too fast if its not going like you want, most of the time when I don't like what I see I start the whole thing over again. |

Demon, im gonna give you some advice. When i first started terraining, i had no clue what i was doing, i used totally flat ground, and knew nothing about the cool things you could do with the editor *i didnt know how to raise/lower doodads so i was using units with custom set fly heights to make 2 story buildings!* What i did was find some high level terrainers' works. *good choices are Beam, Gitlich, Vagabond, and ME (hehe)* then make a new map, and try to imitate some of the stuff they've done. if needed, PM them and ask em for tips on how to do it, and explain that you're just learning how to terrain, and you're mimicing their techniques to try to improve. Trust me, by learning how to rescale an arch to look like a doorway, or making a bridge look like an arch, or learning how to make rocks float so that you get a rocky wall, you'll learn alot about how to use all the terraining stuff (and doodad stuff) to their full potential, and you'll be making much better terrain. so go find a terrain you like, and mimic it. then, save the map. or just delete it all and find another terrain you like, mimic that. DO NOT show off your mimiced terrain to the public as they WONT take kindly to it (being mimiced) but by mimicing experts like them, you'll get MUCH better. I know i did *ggani* ^_^ oh yea. LEARN TO USE THE Doodad/Mushroom PATHING!!! it makes forests look less perfect, it makes it so you can put doodads SOOO much closer together, its a wall builders best friend :P ![]() |
