To import an image as a hero's icon, what do the pixel dimensions have to be? Also, where does the path have to go? Help is appreciated.

Must be 64x64 pixels, in .blp format, have BTN at the beginning (ex: BTNicon.blp), and can be imported into any filepath.

To be exact, you should import the file to "ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtons\BTNheroone.blp" and you should place a disabled version (blacked out) in "ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtonsDisabled\DISBTNheroone.blp"

To be exact, the game will use them either way, and it doesn't seem to have any effect where you upload the custom icons to.

I'm pretty sure disabled button icons have to imported into that specific path in order to work. Try it, if the icon turns bright green whrn you hit F10 then something is wrong with the disabled button path.

Ah, yes disabled buttons have to be imported into that filepath, but the regular icons do not. Sorry about that th15, you were right.

Download Warcraft 3 Viewer from the download section or the Tools forum. It has functionality to convert files to .blp and vice versa. It also extracts and previews textures for you. All in all it is THE most important art tool.

One last thing about Wc3 Viewer. Try not to convert .BMP files to .BLP because you won't like the effects. I highly suggest converting from .jpg to .blp over all other formats. Unless you add an opaque alpha channel to the icon yourself, click the yes button when it asks you if you would like to add an opaque alpha channel to your image, otherwise your icons won't turn out right.

I think thats about it, just some other tips to converting files to .blp
