X-com, Fallout Tactics type Team Strategy

I have artistic skills and have made several epic terrains and plenty of skins; I was working with a master trigger maker..but he got a job..with Blizzard! (OBH, he made 2 Diablo maps).

I'm looking for person\s with good trigger , AI and ability skills for a team strategy map, in the style of the X-com, fallout tactics, jagged alliance type of game. I say 'in the style of' because I want to set it in an original (probably RPG-style)world, not base it off those games. I'm using those games as a starting point for a game style which I love and haven't seen any one else do.

I'm working part-time so I've got some time to finally put this map together- I can do basic triggers and abilities but I need somebody or bodies with more experience of WE and its quirks to help, bounce ideas off.

My idea for a story is that there's an island which is the focus of a magic source..a not so nice human faction has tapped the source and are creating wierd magic-technology hybrid units and enslaving the local populace......the hero is quite underpowered against them initially and has to recruit a squad and use tactics, skills and gadgets against the enemy.

I have a nice-looking terrain I could use and several skins already done, and I'd like this to be a single epic map, single player probably

Is anyone interested in this, or have any comments?

It sounds more promising then expected by reading the title of the name, you might want to clear up what the "X-com" and "Fallout Tactics type's" are for people such as me, who don't know it ;)

Anyway, my compliments on the skin, it highly impressed me, though it is hard to take that as a compliment since I know rather little of skins :P I know a lot about terrain on the other hand and it looks better then I thought. You gave me an idea about the 4th screen shot, (the one to the right) the Dungeon screenshot looks fine, but I can't say anything about that though the first shot (Sunken Ruins) didn't looked too great, but hey, that doesn't mean anything. I'm glad new talents are arriving in large crews.

Anyway, you might want to detail out what you need of people, you gave a nice description, but I mean with "detail it out" that it would be best to name a 'job' for someone. Sometimes people overread parts such as these what you have right now.

Further, personally I'm not too fond on the story, no actually, I don't really like the story. The features sounds good though, and very promising might I add. If I could guarentee I will stay longer then a month on this forum I would like to say I'd keep my eye on this project, but since I cannot guarentee I will stay, I won't say anything about that I will keep my eye on it. I wish you a lot of luck though.

As I saw on your screenshots, you seem to me as a good skinner, a rather good terrainer and someone who actually minds his grammar ;) I didn't found anything noticable. Lately such a thing is rare to see. Not to brag that my grammar is so perfect. With my usual grammar by brother (grammar nazi) can find exactly 4 mistakes on a half page of text. Anyway, I don't really mind my grammar too much here on the forum, also noticable that I fell pretty badly off-topic.

As a matter of fact, I am happy to NOT say my usual routine of words, about "too large project", "too ambitious" or "takes too little jobs on himself" or even "too unexperienced". Its been some time since I didn't had to say that. LotC and Reinless' project were the first in a while and this makes the third. Glad to see it.

Anyway, even though you've been here for some time, I guess it would make sense if I'd properly introduced myself to you. I am Fladian, one of the forum members here (well, duh) someone who tries to keep the peace here in the Campaign/Team Discussion forum. I am very strict when someone speaks harsh language or any insults or whatsoever. I take it you know the rules so I won't point you on it, though I'd like to point out that you shouldn't double post. There is a nice button named 'Edit' for it. Naturly we all overlook it, but try to avoid it. And on a little side note, I'm really bad with names, so please take my humble apologies if I write your name wrong. Also to know, I have a bad habit of falling off-topic while I'm talking about something that already happened earlier in this post. It's just my nature.

Well, in any way, good luck with the project Timfarman. As long as I'm here I'll keep my eye on it. Try to avoid spam and flame and you'll enjoy your stay here :D
My humble apologies that I do not offer any help but that's because there are doubts if I even stay here on the forum. Because of private matters it could be I have no free time to spend on the forum anymore.

Thank you for your time, and good luck.

Well I'm not the one who could say anything anything about the story, so I'll pass ;)
The screenshots look good though. You made good use of doodads especially in the last one. It's a great start if you ask me...

Well, you don't really have to visit the site to be a good member ;) After all, I started out of coming to this site once a week, and now I'm coming every hour :P Though my Internet connection is fast enough.

I still got quite a load of time on my hands (for now) so, you don't need to thank (at least not) me for it. Anyway, I am trying to fullfil me wish, so I AM hoping I have to go :P Anyway, I highly doubt many people would miss me anyway, excluding this part of the forum :P Anyway, when I should go, people such as Reinless, TheFirstSword and DisabledJaw will expansive the mood here like I try.

Anyway, let's try to stay on-topic ;) I'm a bit surprised it got only a handfull of replies...

The thing I was trying to get with those terrains was some variety in the same map

I didn't start this thread very well or explain properly, but I actually do think there's potential here for a pretty interesting map idea,

'XCom, Apocalpse' (if you haven't played), basic features;

An alien threat which appears thru' portals to another dimension. Various Alien types have unseen technology and psychic abilities.
A city which you must defend. You start with an initial base.
From the base you hire a team of agents with individual stats and skills that level up with experience. Their stats relate to health, psionic ability, melee damage, ranged attack, heavy weapons, stealth.

Missions; When alien craft appear to attack the city then you must either intercept the different craft with your vehicles, or enter the areas where they've landed to take 'em on at close quarters, with your teams of agents.
Capture dead or stunned aliens and pick up their dropped weaponary to research back at base, so you can develop new technology. New vehicles, weapons, defenses and armour then become available.

Battle against alien infiltration of the city (they can convert humans with mind powers). Take resources from captured buildings
Government funding relates to your performance
Enter the Alien Portals to destroy them in their own alien dimension and win the game.

Other Features :
Expand, adding 'rooms' to your base for research and construction, and defenses to your base. Develop new bases or defenses around the city.
Destructible environments and civilians who panic and get caught in the line of fire.
Ground based battle with yer hand-picked team of agents, grenades and gun emplacements.
Air based battle with the spacecraft
Option to hire androids, who don't gain experience but have better stats.
Different alien types, leading ultimately to the alien boss.

Sounds big and complicated, but I have enough knowledge of WE to say it's mostly possible thru' triggers and abilities
As I said I'd sure like to play a map like that, so I'd actually like to make the mod, but I'd like some intelligent feedback, and hopefully some people with a knowledge of WE to do

Balancing units and skills
Enemy behaviour (triggered)
Items and alien weaponary
game mechanics

I'm not proposing a full 'port' of x-com with hundreds of texures\models, I,m meaning one single player map, possibly a second for the alien dimension.
You could create a futuristic environment with a custom 'city walls' texture, and the 'city doodads' texture would give you several doodads at once to customise , and have a few choice textures for the units, and keep it under 2MB
