Some forum posting suggestions

A lot of people are posting nondescript titles for their posts.
[sarcasm]
A thread titled “A question about triggers in the Trigger Haven? Not the Trigger Haven! How absurd, who would possibly make a thread about trigger questions in a forum for trigger questions! [/sarcasm]

Please, fellow wc3campaign visitor, try to be more specific in your titling of threads. Yes, you have a trigger question that is not shocking in the least. However, most forum regulars and I are more likely to ignore a post labeled "I have a question" because it doesn't interest in the least. However, if you post "Item related triggers" I am probably very likely to read the post.

In the same token, while it is bad to post "A question here" its even worse to post "Item related triggers" when you are in fact talking about dialogs or multiboards. Much like you should be using a NEW! tag when you are indeed talking about a very old concept (like getting heroes above 10).

Writing in full proper English is better than some elitist internet code. "I have a problem getting my dialog to run even though I seem to have done everything at map init." Is much more readable and understandable then say...."WTF teh dialogue isn't werkin! its made at map init y don't it werk!?" Sure, I understand what you mean, however, your stupid posting style makes me more likely to ignore your plea for help.

"I have trouble with a trigger I made; it does this and this and that and that. Why doesn't it work?" While we may be brilliant guessers, no matter how descriptive you are nothing beats seeing the code. Simply grab a screenshot of the triggers if you are using ROC or use the copy as text function if you are in TFT. DO NOT convert to custom text unless you are indeed using JASS (in which case you should use the jass tag and depending on thought process of the trigger the Jass Vault) Not many people can read fully commented jass code; poorly written world editor jass is Chinese to nearly everyone.

Be descriptive with the problem. Don't just say "my trigger isn't working right" when your trigger is fourteen pages long. Tell us what isn't working and do some debugging of your own. Have it printout things in if then else trees to see which way the code is going. See maybe if it died out in the for loop from one to 2 billion. Also, don't paste every trigger; just paste the one that isn't working. If you can, isolate the part of the code that isn't working. Please be descriptive about every widget of your trigger as if you don't tell us what it is suppose to do, were more likely to just cast it as too difficult for our free minute.

"I was working last Tuesday while eating a bagel and cream cheese and my friend called and we talked for about 20 minutes about the ama...blah blah blah blah repeat for about four paragraphs ...so I got down to it and thought hmm how would you got about creating a pyramid out of cascading flying units?"
GET TO THE POINT A very descriptive post of the PROBLEM is great. A very descriptive post of the crap that led to you discovering the problem is not so great.

"Hey can you do this for me and that too and make sure it doesn't do this and or that and hey I'll rep you if you do it!" Yes, requests do happen however try to be specific with what you want. And don't ask for four million things; ask for ONE thing at a time. Try to limit your requests to once per day. Don't bump your thread if it leaves the front page, and especially do not bite people's heads off if they did your request but did not adhere to each and every minute detail.

"I have a contest/challenge!!! This is really hard so hard that I can't even do it myself. Instead, I'll ask somebody else to do it and if they do succeed I'll put it into my map probably stealing all credit .. oh and maybe I'll rep the winner but being that I just joined yesterday I'll just grey rep him." A lot of people are being "Clever" with their request; they masquerade them as challenges. If you have a contest idea submit it to Lord Vexorian. He holds the WMC. He will ask you to submit a solution set if he can't think of a way to do it. After all how can you possibly grade the contest when you don't have an answer key?

Be nice to your fellow poster. So what if they missed the point of your post. Don't yell at them. If you have nothing nice to say or if you can't understand what they did don't just dismiss as too complex ask questions. Don't be an asshole and say "Gee, well that's great that you did it but I can't understand the loops inner code so instead I just completely scrapped what I needed that requested information for." or "Oh wow that is really neat and works but its in jass can you redo it in GUI!?! I'll GIVE YOU A REP". However, even the nicest guy in the world will not stand for a barrage of rampant stupidity. If you screw up and are rep downed or somebody called you a derogatory term, DO NOT FLAME BACK OR TRY TO COUNTER REP WHO YOU THINK DID IT. It can lead to a huge flame thread which will probably kill your rep, and possibly ban you from the forum where the offense occurred. Bitching about being banned in a forum can probably get your account fully banned or other serious repercussions. Just accept that you screwed up. Think twice before making your thirteenth request of the day and flaming the people in your first twelve threads who ask that you try it yourself.

Finally, if you haven't noticed a motif of this post do not bait people with rep. Reputation is arguably earned each time they help you out. So what if you didn't explicitly given them a rep up when they answered your question, another person may have read it and may esteem the answerer as a knowledgeable user. Those little green bars don't mean much. Though it is true that you are more likely to take the advice of a three green barred person then say that of a person with grey rep...But remember that the grey bar repped individual may have just joined or he has just never been repped up for all the times he has helped out. Maybe you can right the wrong and give him the point he deserve.

Rep somebody that helps you, derep somebody that is being an idiot do not flame him (Unless it is completely necessary). If they helped out even in the smallest way they took time out of their day to help, so you should probably reward their efforts. On the counterpoint, If somebody is being an ass and making 500 request threads and insulting every person that doesn't answer his request to a T don't reply to him and bump his thread or give him fuel for his flames, just calmly and coolly give him negative rep and leave it be. If the person continues being an offensive poster contact a moderator through a pm or an email.
Do not report every little thing either. Do not report a guy for making a double post, SHOCKER IT MAY HAVE BEEN UNINTENTIONAL!
