Umm.. make sure the tga isn't corrupted (export it, careful not to overwrite the original, and try to open it)

Make sure you're testing the newly saved file (ctrl+F9 should work)

And umm... that's all I can think of. Your steps seemed accurate.

Do other maps work?

Make sure you've entered the path exactly--even case differences. I believe WC3 is case-sensitive...

Make sure that the .tga file is 32 bit depth when you save it.

Just get W3M map utlilites form the DL section, it lets you put in a minimap really easily, just have to save it as a 256X256 jpeg.

did you make sure to include an opaqe alpha channel on it? a few people miss them.. ive spent ages looking at making custom map previews and there a hundreds of things that can go wrong!

The main points to avoid trouble are to make sure ur imiage is actually to size.... i mean to the pixel!

Make sure it has an alpha channel in it..

Flatten the image before putting it in warcraft...... i have never seen this on any guides but is likeley the cause or many hours lost in struggle! FLATTEN PEOPLE!
