I was just wondering how to make it so that the water runs right up on the shore

Easiest way is to make a blank map with the starting level as shallow water, then just raising all the areas you want to be land above the water.

Go to Advanced and turn off Enforce Water Height Limits.

Lets you have water right to the edge of a level of cliff, instead of having that small piece of cliff wall.

ok, i dont use either methods for rivers.

when i used UMSWE for a bit (before a virus destroyed wc and i had to reinstall)
i constructed where i wanted the river to go, then used the terrain's 'lower' tool to create only a small amount of cliff, giving the effect of slight erosion.

rather useful, id say ^_^

the easyest way is to make a overly big square water, then make ramps, then use the lower and rase tool to make the rive the desired size u want
