Well, after seeing all these pitiful Open Rpg threads, I decided to make my own, so I could see the things I wanted to see, and make it how I wanted it done. (Which is pretty high standards) First of all, the information I am about to provide is a rough draft of what the character classes will be, I am posting this right now, because I would like to hear feedback on the available classes, spell ideas, classes you'd like to see or classes you'd like to be removed. I know that this is inadequate for a person to automatically want to help on this project because I have not actually started working on it yet. But, I'm not really asking for help, except a terrainer, I am doing the rest of this project, by myself, only being influenced by people's comments. (Unless I need custom models, skins, or animations, which should be a low amount) This is what I hope to include in the MMORPG: -Male and Female Specific Classes each based on the normal gender's abilities. - Feats, allowing character customation, some Barbarians will choose to Dual-Wield and abandon their Giant Axe heritage, while others may choose to strengthen their Axe, Feats will allow the person to choose how to mold his character class, to how her prefers. Find the right combination of feats, and be rewarded with power. - Hundreds of different items, including sets, Special inventory system allowing you to Own items and disown them. Unlike the FFOpen RPG system, you can pick up weapons, and type the command -own, making that item permanetely yours, meaning if you drop it, none else can pick it up. You can also type the -disown command which allows other players to pick that item up. There are 5 equiptment slots, and an invisible stash, you can choose the slot you wish to send to your stash, and with the command of -stash, you can select your stash and choose the item you wish to use. - Unique Spells, All Custom, many use Attribute modifiers. - Unique Rage System for the Barbarian (Read Class info) - Different Tradeskills each allowing you to create or do different things. Each is able to level up, enabling new recipes for that skill, and faster effiency. - Mining Exp System, which levels up your tradeskills. The higher your mining skill, the faster you mine. - Player Owned Shops. Players can open up a shop in a city, place their crafted items in the shop, and sell them for profit to other players, for more profit than normally gained by just selling the item to a merchant. - Player Sieges. Players can siege opposing towns, fighting the players on the opposing teams. Players can hire armies like catapults, calvary, and infantry to help siege the city. For a certain price, you can also designate from an allied city to which city you are attacking, in which the town will attack the opposing town with it's own army, while the player's aid it. (More details will be added, as I figure out how I want to do this.) - An arena where you can fight organized team PvP, or just battle it out in a 1 on 1 match. - Item requirements. Many items will require certain feats or attributes to carry or use. If not able for use at the time. The player has a chance for 20 seconds to move that item to his stash for later use, if he does not move it within that 20 seconds, the item will be dropped. This is so that the player can not abuse having 2 items of the same slot having effect on him. - That's all I can think of right now, but I am sure I will think of more later. Here are the classes, When the game opens, you choose New or Load, then if you choose New, you choose a Gender, Male or Female, then you choose class: Male Classes: Paladin - A Holy Warrior of the Light; The Paladin uses party aiding skills such as various auras and healing incantations. The Paladin also has strong defensive capabilities using powerful shields to protect himself, but sometimes a Paladin will choose to follow the more offensive path by using large hammer or blunt weapons to bash their foes. Paladin's have few offensive capabilities because Paladins believe that killing is wrong, but they they still must do it in order to protect themselves and others. Paladins use many stunning abilities to knock the opponent unconcious before striking them down to make the guilt bear less knowing that it was painless. Monk - Monks are heavily defensive minded, aiding other party members by means of healing and a few buffs. Monks use mainly their hands to fight, but sometimes will wear different gloves to further aid their offensive capability. Monks have also learned over the years to summon various 'gods' to aid them in battle. The 'gods' last a short time, but can truely turn the tide of a battle in an instant. Barbarian - Barbarians are without a doubt fueled by their rage. Leaving their villages because of a recent attack, the Barbarians care about nothing besides avenging those who died. The more damage he takes, the stronger he becomes. Barbarians are focused on offence, usually seen carrying massive weapons, only capable of using with two hands even with Barbarians great strength. Barbians at a higher level can learn to Dual-wield, but often it is a better choice to further enhance their ability of wielding larger weapons. (Rage is used as mana, it starts at 0, every 1 'may change' point of damage Barbarian takes, he gains 1 Rage point *Mana*, Rage can then be used to enable the Barbians special abilities.) Druid - Druid's are users of nature, often using nature to aid them in battle. Druid's can also shapeshift into different beasts, giving them the qualities that that beast would have. (Bear is strong, Wolf is fast, etc.). Druid's can use nature in many ways as protective shields, blessings (buffs), offensive abilities, and sometimes a higher level Druid can manipulate nature to such an extent that he is able to use the earth as if it were a mercenary, using things such as trees or rocks to aid him. Necromancer: The Necromancer uses dark powers and raising the dead to aid himself in battle. The Necromancer can use special buffs which instead of helping units, make them weaker and slower. Necromancer's can also raise the dead to form skeletons or other abombinations of the dead. Other humans have been forced to make friends with the Necromancer after seeing the sheer strength of themselves and their armies, although some Necromancers still have not accepted the alliance leaving some still evil and enemies to the human race. Female Classes: Rogue - Rogues are masters of stealth, using night to their advantages, Rogues often sneak behind their enemies silently making their kill. Rogues are highly offensive minded, so much that, without the proper precautions, the rogue will fall quickly. Rogues can also set traps such as landmines, or even at higher levels use the power of the elements on their traps adding a deadly affect. Rogues also use poison to slowly kill their enemies. Rogues use Claws as weapons often Duel-Wielding them for maximum affect, but many also use shields to further enhance their weak defensive capability. Sorceress - Sorceresses use the elements of the earth to combat their enemies. Ranging from ice, fire, wind, earth, lightning, and water, the Sorceress has many ways to slaughter her enemies. Sorceresses are also very weak in defense, but many times do not come near the heart of batlle, making their defense inadequacy almost unnoticable. Sorceresses often use Staves to further enhance their magical powers, because of the Sorceresses low strength few use shields, and their armor must remain light so not to encumber the Sorceress. Ranger - The Ranger attacks from a distance using an assortment of weapons such as bows, crossbows, and a rare occurence of Throwing Knives. Rangers silently move through nature much like a Rogue, being able to Hide when in forests can often provice an excellent opportunity to ambush enemy units. Rangers can also summon familars, which serves as an animal companion fighting for the Ranger. Valkyrie - The Valkyrie is the tank member of the females. A Valkyrie uses light weapons and armor, yet uses the lightness of her equiptment to her advantage by attacking extremely fast, and being agile enough to block using only her weapons (Must be Dual-Wielding). The Valkyrie is neither offensive nor defensive based, yet overall is a strong character. The Valkyrie is known to Dual-Wield, but sometimes is seen using either a Polearm or a sword and shield. Enchantress - The Enchantress use spells to aid their allies, in the ways of damage, armor, speed, and more. The Enchantress is more party-minded, making her a difficult choice for solo play, but is a great help because of the strength she can add to your party. Enchantresses can also maniupulate objects to fight for her such as earth and rocks, or enchanting her surroundings as traps for her enemies. All Percentages and integers are added on to the base stat. When upgrading the level of the feat, the number is added to the already percentage or interger. For example, if you ave a 5% damage increase, and gain another 15%, you now have a 20% damage increase. Exceptions are made more specific in descriptions. Again, the only thing I truely need to help with the project is a terrainer, right now, I am mostly looking for feedback and ideas based on what I have posted. I am going to trigger, spell create, units, plan, and sort out all of this, but if you want to help, just ask, and I will see if I have something. Also, not needed anytime soon, but I am going to need an expert at save/load triggers to try to reduce all these things to as small as code possible, I can't do it at all let alone optimize it to be as small as possible. I know this will be at LEAST 30 digits long, which could be difficult. Please, Please, Please, Do not complain about the lag this could cause on some computers. If you don't have DSL and the probably at least 1 Ghrz processor needed to run this, don't complain about it to me. There are more people that can run this, than can't, and let's just hope that you don't try to run it if you are one of these people, because I hate when people lag a game and it takes forever to get them out. ^_^ I updated Pally and Barb feats, so if you have any comments on those! Thanks :D |

You couldn've guessed that I would post, right Disabled Anus? :P I just came back from a party that went on all night long so I'm completely exhausted... so I'll make this quick. The project sounds really well, and if it'll finish I'll be looking forward to it. You're not someone who overestimates himself or others, so I do not give much doubt you've already made the thought IF you can make this project. I'll keep my eye on this for as long as I'm here on the forum. If you still don't got a terrainer after some time, I'll probably sign up myself but I can't guarentee anything, nor "too well" quality. Thank you for your time -Fladian |

Haha, Fladian, I am glad my project gains your approval... Hopefully, people will realize that this is how you start a project, instead of just typing what you need, and what type of map it is. I'm not to worried about the terrainer or the save/load code right now, because all these triggers are going to take me an extremely long time. Thanks |
| 08-06-2004, 03:56 PM | #4 |
Well, that the triggers will take a long time, that's for sure. Those aren't triggers you can do in a small amount of time. Even though it is possible, someone/you will be able to create it, I am wondering about the determination. A lot of people lose interest of their project halfway. There are of course, exceptions (I'm still working on the same old project of mine :P) but still... Well, I wish you luck anyway keep it updated ;) -Fladian |

Could someone give me a list of exotic weapons? I have Double-Bladed Swords, but I can't think of the rest, I know they had some on Neverwinter Nights. By the way, there might not be an update tonight, I am currently working on all the feats for the characters, but I went to the movies tonight, and I was hit with a bug called Risk Your Life, which is an amazing Open Beta MMORPG, which I am thoroughly impressed with. I may get done 4 or 5 classes tonight, so the update may come soon tommorow. |

Exotic weapons...? As example? Such as a katana, long sword, ninja-to? |
| 08-07-2004, 03:35 PM | #7 |
Yes like those, But I don't think a long-sword is exotic, the katana is, but I need more because I don't want the Barbarian using the Katana, because those are reserved for assasins instead of Just claws. But yes, like those. |

You could look on gamebanshee (http://www.gamebanshee.com/) for the items that are used in the games such as Never Winter Nights, Baldurs Gate, Ice Wind Dale and more. It would be a lot better if you read it then if I would repeat it ;) -Fladian |

Well I realize I haven't said anything in awhile, but it was the first few weeks of school, so I've been real busy, but I did post a few updates in the 1st post showing the feats for Pally and Barb. Still looking for helpful ideas or comments. |
| 09-04-2004, 11:05 PM | #10 |
Yeey, Disabled Anu... err... Jew, is back :P I was wondering where you were (seriousely) I'll be reading you updates when I wake up :P I'll be going to bed soon... (1 o clock in the night isn't really the time you should take to relax and read some things :P) BTW, 'Feats' it stands for 'features', right? ^^ Welcome back to the land of the livin.. um... well, I don't want to say living, but dead isn't very appropiate either... whichever you like. Good luck with school and the project, I'll be posting in the morning. -Fladian |

HAHA, yeah I knew you'd miss me.... And Feats stands for abilities basically, it's something the character gets because he has that. all of them are Passive basically... Read some and you probably understand. Thanks for the welcome back, hopefully I can pan out some more free time as well. |
| 09-26-2004, 03:37 PM | #12 |
I know I revived it yeah! But I promised I'd post in it, and I wanna keep my promises. And also, as I recall, Disabled Anus is still working on it. Anyway, how is it going?... with the project that is. |

Slowly, but its ok, I've been really busy lately, so I can't work on it that much, most of the stuff I've been working on is repetitve since I have to do for every played, or many different items. It might slow down even more, because I was offered nice free hosting, so I might create a gaming website, and write a PHP rpg game for it... but I'm not sure yet. But, I can't really do much detailed work until I get a terrainer... but for now I'm working for all the skill triggersand feats and stuff. But not bad, thanks |
