Hi, I'm Soulbreaker. I'm making an RPG map called Broken Legend, and it's my first map. I'm not asking for help or anything, but I figured it'd make a nice way to introduce myself. The RPG, at the sacrifice of character selection, is deeply plot driven and will include multiple sidequests, an arena with increasingly difficult battles, and big boss battles. At the moment, considering my novice experience with the World Editor, the map will feature stock art and models, as well as no real changes to the main battle system (for the moment, anyway.) I am relying on the fact that the story is, in my opinion, an excellent one with engaging characters. Anyway, I'll post it in a day or two, when I've finished the majority of the terrain and quests. The big question is: Since I'm only using stock art/abilites, and the stock battle system, will I even have an audience? Answer, please. Thanks.

It doesn't matter whether you use custom models, skins, or icons or if you have a really different fighting system or anything as long as it is fun to play. I have seen good and bad maps that made use of stock art and I have seen good and bad maps that make use of custom art and/or new battle systems. In my opinion, however, it is not worth the time and trouble of programming a new battle system because it will be very hard to make it fun. Warcraft 3 is a great game with a great engine. There really is no need to mess with the game mechanics, just find a way to use them in a new and exciting way. Also, if it will be a multiplayer map for Battle.net you can't have a lot of new art or the file will get too big and even if it isn't a multiplayer map, most of the custom art I have seen is not as good as Blizzard's which detracts from the experience.

Thanks for that--there will be a multiplayer edition of the map featuring eight characters and an individual sidequest for each character, as well as an arena section and a different story.
