Official Thread: Undead Hero Arena

For some ungodly reason, i had to scrap my Dalaran Open RPG map. The map file somehow became corrupt, and i was not able to retrieve any of the data from the file. so i decided to start on a new map:

The Undead Hero Arena!
This map will feature the following:
-50 heroes: 25 living and 25 undead
-Upon map start, you get to choose which you want: Living or undead via circles of power. (Note: Once you choose living or undead, you CANNOT change that. If you need to repick, you can only repick what you choose in the beginning.
-Leaderboard (duh)
-10 different creep spawns. Creeps wander around the map as well!
-There is a battle between the Forces of the Living and the Undead Scoruge that wages on in this arena. You, as a hero, get to choose which side to fight for. The faction that wins the battle recieves 50K gold. So, it pays to help out the battle.
-Duel Arena, with Prizes!
-Custom heroes, items, spells, and units.
-As much balance as possible, when it comes to heroes, items, and spells.
-No "uber god items that players can have to ruin the game for everyone."
-No Cheats.
-No Godly Heroes that players have access to. Period. No changing my mind on that one.
-Duel Arena system Add-on: Players step on runes to start a duel, similar to Lord Vexorian Hero Arena (Thanks for the idea Vex!)
-Abilities are bought from stores. The only ability you start with is Attribute Bonus.

Well, that is all that i am doing with it. I might include some custom models as well, for the Lord of the Undead and the God of the Living.

This is a big bump.

Well, here is a pic of the "haunted wells". I think it looks cool.

(NOTE: Wells are NOT custom models. They are more of a "graphic glitch".)

Advice: Less Heroes. MUCH less heroes. With so many it will be very tedious to balance. Plus, people like me would want to try out every hero and 70 is a bit too much. Instead, have 20-20. It's a much more manageable number.

Concerning the god heroes....I was thinking that Jury would make a really good one.

Sounds cool. YAY a arena that is not broken.

Need to change the stuff in the first post.

Let me do that.

EDIT: Thread starting post has been changed to what the current project reflects.

It looks like, with the overarching battle, this will be something of an open-field AoS with a Hero Arena going on in the middle. Is that an accurate description? It sounds quite entertaining, although I've got to agree with Pyrus that 70 heroes sounds quite large. It's probably better to focus on quality, not quantity. Have you got some models picked out for heroes? Any heroes done yet?

The well looks nice. A glitch you say? How so?

I still have no clue as to how the fountain changed colors on me, but it goes like this:

I look at the fountain in the "Sun Well" state, then, out of nowhere, the yellow rays turn purple, and the blue water color slowly fades, then it cycles back to the "Sun Well" state.

It is the weirdest thing i have ever seen. I know my video card isn't the best, but i didn't think it was THAT bad as to change the texture of an animated dood...

(Oh, duh!)
Now i think i know what happened. I created a new "Fountain of Power" object, and i used the Sun Well model for it. Since the Fountain of Power changes colors (at least, i think it does) the fountain that i made will change colors as well.

Well, there is the reason it changes colors. (but, it does add a nice effect)

EDIT: I just played the map in test run, and it did not change colors. I guess it is something with my editor.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's the same thing that happens with other models that have alternate stand animations, like the Grom model, or any of the ancients. The editor plays through all the "stand" animations even though the game limits itself to the ones that are supposed to be played.

At any rate, you ought to be able to force the well to become purple by using whatever alternative tag is added to that stand animation, which you can find by selecting the unit and cycling through its animations in the preview screen in the main WE window.

It looks very promising. One thing I dont like is that it looks too organized and symmetrical, making it seem unnatural.

The fountains are probable placed too close to each other. You will run into problems with people camping out at fountains all the time.

Lack of doodads. Im not saying to go overboard, but a few here and there (like at the base of the columns) will add a nice touch.
