I've been wanting to do this awhile, Terrain my own Zen Gardens . The gardens area can be as big or small as you want, there is no limit to number of screenies posted and any custom models/skins can be used. There are many different ways to go about terraining zen gardens so I've included a few pictures to give you an idea of the theme. Challenge will end 2 weeks from today; so Aug. 24th is the deadline. Good luck... |

I did it faster than I thought, but that doesn't mean it is poor quality. I just finished it. Here it is, take a look. I got kinda carried away with some of the screen shots, I guess I didn't need too many. Anyway, I took some pics of the overhead view, so you could see how big it is and how much detail there is, and I got some close-ups as well. I hope you like them :> |

Nice shots, a very natural/green garden worth a shiny rep point. |

Thanks for the compliments. Your Zen Garden is very beautiful, full of originality. I was thinking of putting statues, but I never thought of the statues on the Altar of Storms. Very original using those in a garden like that. Also, I like your plants that have the leaves. Where did you get that model? Or did you make it? It doesn't look familiar. And also, the Zen House. I love it. It looks like a lot of custom models. I can only see a few that I know, though. I know the Legless Table was stretched with a Z axis, am I correct? It looks like you used that a lot, and I think I have seen those Asian Sliding Doors before, I think they were in the model section. Anyway, nice job on that. I looked through every doodad in Warcraft for something that would look like a Zen house, and all I found were those lanterns I used in mine. They did the job, and they fit the scene nicely. I like them. But yours...Wow. And that roof you used, it had to have been a custom model, since no other doodad that I can think of looks like it would be able to do that, even with a skin. Oh well, it's your Zen house :D Nice job. |

About what I said earlier, that was stupid. I didn't check my sources. I just looked through the DL section and found the entire Japanese house already made--- I thought you made it from scratch, using a bunch of models. My bad. Anyway, I still like your picture. It doesn't change my view on the terrain from before--- I was just mistaken by my own stupidity. o_O |

Next time, I suggest you: 1: Use the Noise tool on the terrain; it makes it hilly, and then use the Smooth Tool to make it less sharp. That will add some natural effects to your terrain 2: Take better terrain Screen shots. A good way to get good terrain picture is to put the screen down in the picture, at a Warcraft unit Eye level. It will look even more impressive, even if you are a newbie terrainer (Not that you are.) 3: Use more Environment doodads will add to your picture a lot, such as the Shrubs, Bushes, Rocks, etc. It always helps, especially in a Garden. 4: Use less units, and more doodads. 5: Follow the terrain challenge. This challenge was Zen Garden (An asian-style garden), not a forest challenge. You made a forest with a river and a blood mage and archers and whatever else. That doesn't fit this catagory. 6: Use more terrain tiles instead of just grass and rocks. 7: Use dirt for paths. Rock tiles don't work for paths in a forest. What works is Dirt, unless you are making a village. 8: Use little groups of trees in the foreground, and large clusters in the back. It adds deapth to your picture. 9: Be spontanious and natural and unsymetrical, especially in a forest, a garden, or any other Natural location when terraining. Your path is a solid rectangle that runs down the middle of the forest. 10: Use layers, with hill tools or cliff tools. 11: Learn how to use fog effects 12: Take pictures that include the sky to make it look more real. 13: Use custom doodads and try to be original using them, like in my Zen Garden Picture, where I used the custom trees and those lanterns scaled up to look like an asian house. |

I'd do this but it basically requires custom doodads and such, which simply isn't my style. Oh well... |

Thanks for the kind words, I came across that model by luck - when I was really bored I watched a german cinematic rpg trailer called Adventurien (which is quite good despite the fact I couldn't understand a word of it), it can be found here http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Maps&ID=1323&sid= Its a great model but the whole map was in German so i have no idea who the creator of this wonderful model is, anyway... heres the files needed for it, 1 model & 4 skins. ^_^ |
