Transparent?

Is there a way to make spots on a skin transparent with a certin color? Like i wanna edit the skin of 1 of the gates and i need the actuall gate door part to have transparent parts.

i dont know much about the whole alpha channel stuff, what exacally is it and how would i "alpha it out"?

Wut skinning program do u use. In gimp u just need to add an alpha channel and then erase the part u want to be transparent. I'm not sure about other skinning programs tho.

im using PSP, so what exactally is an alpha channel, and how do i add 1 to certin parts, is it just a certin color?

yea, well psp works for custom skins and all, cause i use 125 viewer 2 convert them so it automatically adds in an aplha channel for me, but i guess i cant make transparent parts then, right?

well if psp is like gimp then u should just be able to select the area u want transparent and move it off the image. Or u can jsut send me the file and i can do it for u.

megaerthia you could still do it if he saves it as targa and then you edit from there in photoshop then upload it back up.
