Recently I was thinking of something to do.. So I thought to myself and thought I might try making a project, for the fun of it.. Next thing on my mind was what I should do.. I thought along the lines of something bland needing some "zest".. So what I came up with was a WC2 conversion. With some custom models (Mages/Death Knights/Paladins/Archers/Dragons/Ogre Mages to name a few), custom effects (Remade Overlays and Magic), remove heros (besides for the single player campaign and include Zul'Jin/Grom/Etc.), play with some of the features (I.E. Orcs can also get more then 1 person to build, Orcs need to upgrade towers.. Stuff of that sort) and, if its possible (I am unsure if this will work I haven't played single player much so I don't know if this is in already), get ship foundrys and such (Water transportation). I thought it would be a cool idea and was wondering if I could get some feedback on this idea. I think it will actually turn out quite fun game if I can get it done properly.. I am thinking of following WC2 entirely (Same gameplay for MP maps) and the same story for single player just with alot of neater looking effects.. I mean comon I lost interest in WC2's story once I saw how bad the graphics were so maybe I could make it abit more interesting. Anyways, I better stop talking and wait for replies! Hopefully you guys enjoy the idea. |

A conversion to the WC2? Some people tried it before, I can't recall ever hearing of the project again :P You don't seem to me like the most experienced guy. Why not try and join an other project to get some mod-experience ;) It can't hurt after all. Otherwise, it would also be useful to ask in what you are need of. Or are you only in need of feedback? :P Oh yeah, it seems you're new here, so welcome to the wc3c forum, I am Fladian, Moderator of the Team Gathering forum. I hope you'll enjoy your stay. If there's anything at all, just ask. -Fladian |

Actually, I've been coding/studying c++ for 4 years.. I have been modeling for 2 years.. and I've been skinning for the past 6 months (Also, I have been using photoshop since I was 8 so that can take care of sprites). I think i can handle it once I get used to WC3. I am fairly new to WC3 so the start might be abit slow but I am dedicated to this project if people like it enough. (Reason i know how to do all this stuff is because I used to code/model/sprite for Half-Life) and thanks for the welcome. also, I just want feedback. as we speak I am studying the WC3 client and it doesn't seem as hard as HL/Q3 or anything else I've worked for so I think I might give it a shot. |

Realm Design is a wc3 total conversion that has set the goal to convert wc3 into warcraft1 and warcraft 2/X. here is their forums: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/forumdisplay.php?f=218 |

Well, there are probably more then just one wc3 conversion to wc2 projects here around, I'm not exactly updated nor do I got the energy to check it out at the moment (for all sake, I just got home, it's near midnight) Anyway, you might not get everyone's attention by starting a conversion to wc2. At least you wouldn't get my attention for it :P Partly is because I never played wc2 and haven't played wc3 in a while either :P anyway, don't let me stop you, if you're dedicated enough you can just go on. Anyway, ask yourself, will you get enough interested people with multiple conversions to wc2? If you want to do something else, you might as well join someone else ;) It will be easier then start out alone :p Good luck eitherway -Fladian |
