The recent discovery of "problems" with Athlon64 on Windows XP SP2 made me wanting to know which CPUs you guys use on your Warcraft III modding systems. Simply pick the CPU you have. If it is not listed here, please tell me which one you have. Note: I only added reasonable choices here. I hope you don't use sub 400MHz CPUs for Warcraft III. |

Good idea Starcraftfreak. The Mpq Library I am currently developing for HeavyLocker will use some specific CPU stuff and this poll can be helpfull. For an example, I am currently using a fast "memcpy" designed to take advantage of the AthlonXP cache (I have a AthlonXP). It is also good to know that you got an Athlon64, so I might ask for your help on testing AMD64 stuff later on (I mean reaaaaaaaaally later on coz things are going slowly btw). |

The "normal" athlons of all speed classes and the p4 seam to be favoured ... :) but it is nice to see that every type of cpu is used ... allthrough i cant beleave that someone plays warcraft3 on a p2 ... :( i tried it only once in a multiplayer game ... first it went all well but in the middle of the game it lagged like nothing else ... :( |

@Eff_X: Well it depends on the video card and memory as well. Consider that the P2 went up to 450MHz, so it meets the minimum requirements at least. The problem is that most P2 systems have lame GPUs (there will be another poll regarding GPUs in the future) and most of the time less than 128MB memory. Generally I'd require 1GHz for Warcraft III at least to play it. Of course the Video Card should be able to render more than 30fps @ 1024x768 (with the 1GHz CPU) and 256MB RAM are also a good amount. I'd like to know who voted for Sempron, the K6 and the P2. Maybe someone who voted for all? Just in case you don't know, I don't want to know which CPUs you have, I want to know which CPUs power the system you use for playing/modding WC3. As BlackDick explained, this also helps the programmers a great deal. |

I only voted for my actuall PC! ;) (Athlon XP 2700+ with 1GB ram and now an Ati 9700 Pro, before i only had a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 AGP8x and 64MB ram ;) ) Finally enough for WarCraft 3 ! :) My old PC (i already played Warcraft with it) was an Athlon Thunderbird 700 Mhz with 384MB ram and an Geforce 256 (this special 32MB ddr-ram version :) ) was already enough to play with an majority of 30+ frames, alltrough the last night-elf mission was nearly unplayable with less than 10 frames ... ;) But it often beats an 1Ghz cpu with 256 mb ram and an geforce 2 mx 64mb ram in benchmarks ... :) (Much and maybe helpless informations ... ;) ) |

No, its just that SP2 is a buncha shit, and it has problems with every cpu, to get rid of SP2, go to control panel/add or remove programs/ then find windows xp hotfix (SP2) and remove it, the rest are (SP1) and dont need to be removed. Security Pack 2 = Another Microsoft Fuckup ![]() |

Well it still has some good basic ideas ... but i think Microsoft does too much ... there are a lot of very good (and also free) firewalls or anti virus programs out there, additionally there are programms like ad-aware or spybot S&D ... So why does anybody needs SP2? (Beside from these people who buy discount pcs, and still have no idea ... ;) ) I also could ask why anybody needs the movie maker, or the msn messenger included in xp ... ;) I want an operating system with less additional software (which i have to delete after installation ;) ) and runs faster !!! |

But of course all these issues are beyond the borders of your perception. If I were you, I'd look at my language since it contains words, which are not tolerated here. |

I've been running SP2 for 3 days and havn't had any problems with any of my programs so far. The only thing that pisses me off is that damn security panel thing that can't be removed from the system tray. I'm happy that they fixed some security problems and think it's great, but god dammit I don't need Microsoft to tell me if my firewall is working and that I'm running Zone Alarm. Get the hell out of my system tray (ps, I know I can hide it with the unused programs, but it's still a pain in the ass and a process I don't need running). The best part is if you try to stop it it pops up another one that works around your hidden programs and then you have to hide that one as well.Oh yes, and I'm running on a Pentium M 2.66 ghz, 768 ram, radeon 9000 64mb (it's a dell inspiron 5100 laptop with upgraded ram/vid card). Runs warcraft 3 perfectly and that's good enough for me. |

Well, unlike you I've got alternate progs to cover what SP2 does, and unlike you, I had tons of inadaquet OS errors all the time after installing it, and you have a problem with my language, either ignore me, or don't read it. And DoCa, go fuck yourself. |

I'm with the guy who had problems... my bro has an IBM thinkpad and SP2 totally broke his wireless connectivity... luckily I run a Powerbook so i don't have to deal with any of the Microsoft bullshit |
