Hi, I converted an MDX file into a MDL using Yobguls Converter. I can't open either type of file with milkshape though. When I try to import MDX, Milkshape "has an illegal error and will be shut down...". When I try to import MDL, nothing happens at all. So how can edit a model (extracted with Warcraft 3 Viewer) in Milkshape. I must be doing something wrong. Help is appreciated.

youll needt oconvert it into another format, because mdl/msx are still warcraft formats, if you cant find an importer i think blizz's art tools work with gmax, which is a free version of 3DS-MAX with less features

Well, if you are making simple changes, you can just open the .mdl file in notepad. If you want to make actual visual changes, you'll need to use a modelling program. Now the reason you can't import the .mdx into milkshape is because your trying to import it as a .mdx from another game, probably something like serious sam, or whatever other game uses .mdx model files. I don't believe you can import wc3 models into milkshape without converting to something else. If you have to, download Gmax and use max-script to import the .mdx file and do your editing there.

I'm trying to use GMax to edit them, but I can't open GMax. I try to get a registration code, but the link won't work. Can I get a link from another place? Can I go to the GMax website and find a code?

Not sure. You can probably get the code from someone else, but its supposed to be sent to your email (at least I think). Gmax is free, so you don't need to worry about a trial or paying or anything like that.
