ive been lookin at the examples coming with the art tools and in them, there is ofcourse the unit and all... wat i dont get is that they have help pointers, wat r these for, and also the grunt has a gravity in the scene, some1 plz tell me wat this is, im kinda confused. oh and also i wanted to know wat method of modeling did blizz use to make them models like box modeling, poly spline etc... i cant say it but those models are frikin awesome and ive been tryin to make something even close to that. i know all the tools and how to use them and all but.. cmon. also did they use sketches and referances to make the models. u know i would prefer a blizz modeler to read this cause they know wat they did :P u know a blizz modeler should write a pro tutorial on making a warcraft model, like a pro one, not warcraft simple unit, something like those new heroes, goblin alchemist and firelord. (AMAZING MODELS!!!) |

I think everyone makes his models the way he likes best. Every way has its advantages and disadanvtages. In my opinion a tutorial wont help much, since you wont become a Blizzard modeler after one tutorial. You have to make your own experiences. A tutorial can show you the right direction and give you some tips, nothing more. And as it seems you dont read tutorials, since you dont know what for the helpers are. You can read that in the pdf witch comes with the Art Tools. |

You can't be taught how to make kickass models. You can be taught how to use the tools to make kickass models, and you can learn how other people model and adapt your knowledge to it, but it doesn't come straight out of a tutorial I can tell you that. |

. I'm just learning it myself and the best tip I've found was "concept it first". When I'm working I have a drawing or a model next to me and that makes it so much easier to picture the end result. The tutorials are all good but they definately aren't going to have every detail.Sadly, moddellers aren't going to write a tute for their models, because if everyone just builds the same one, or edits the concept, it'll get boreing. Having said that, asking pros about an aspect of there work is good and flattering (don't keep doing it, they get pissed off quickly). Theres really not that much arrogance amongst them, and as long as it's polite and it's not something you are to lazy to search the forums for (no.1 forum crime), they often help. ;) |

actually for me i can become a kikass modeler from one tutorial cause i got all the stuff for it but i need the trigger, which could b the tutorial, and also my ideas suck thats y i never made any kikass models but i know loads of stuff bout max and 3d. one tutorial will do the trick. |

Well if you can make the models, then make them. Spells and such aren't a big deal if you can make a kickass model. If it kicks ass then I'm sure you should be able to find someone friendly enough who knows how to work the Spell Editor to make the spells and such. If you need a more intense tutorial, check up Cookie's massive FAQ which practically covers everything you need to know about Modding. |

Well i know how to use world editor much better than many ppl, i was a shaman i a clan called MMG (map making gods) until the clan disbanded. i know triggers, spells and almost anything in the WE. After i got really advanced from the WE i started modeling which greatly inspired me and after more than a year, im here. about the concepts, i cant draw for my life so i attemt to look for concepts of specific characters which i want to model but i cant find the ones i want. once i got a friend to do one for me but it ran into too many problems. Watever, a tutorial might help... tho thats one of my questions, did blizzard use concepts? i think yes but they should make a tutorial on how they used the conept in max. Also the animating. |

Now I see where you are coming from. Yes, blizzard have a (high paid) concept team who background and sketch all there units go have a look at some http://www.blizzard.com/war3/conceptart/grunt.shtml. I agree that it would be a good idea to have an official turorial, but Blizz have moved on to World of Warcraft now. So there will be very few new official tools or tutorials ever released for war3 again . I'll repeat what I said, if you see something you like and want to know the technique ask the maker.Concept wise, Going through the concept galary and looking for things on other sites, you'll find everything you need. You sound reasonably intelligent so once you know the technique you need and have a concept you should do well. Other than that, you could ask for a step by step tutorial, but it wont necessarily meet all your needs;). Quote:

Thx man, u helped alot (i mean slaanesh). Just 2 more Qs. Doing the skins, they first unwrap and exprot, i got that bit but do they draw the skin or they do it in PS or PSP. cause the skins look way too goood to b done by PS unless they hav really pros. i know i shld post this in skinning forum but... watever. Also, told me that if i c a model that inspires me, ask the maker a few qs about it, how do i find the makers if their names rnt posted on the model (not literally on the model, u know wat i mean) |

Yes 1. unwrap then save and make the skin in ps. And of course they do them in PS, what you expect? Its a company, companys only takes pros, especially Blizzard. PS is just a godly good program for kinda everything, so a skin isnt a big deal. Concepts are an important point of modeling (specially for games/movies etc). Its ridiculous to start a character without any greater defaults on paper. I think its even easier to change the char on paper than redo the model, or? Its just learning by doing m8. No tutorial cant help you there making kickass stuff, only (as told before) to learn the tools. To find a modeler isnt an easy task. Probably you got luck and his name is on the pic (©). Else, ask around or you can probably forget about it. Greets |
