well im bored of the normal "hero" in rpg's what im suggesting is have a normal unit, which if is a mage has lots of mana and is weak in combat and uses the spell book instead of abilitys, freeing up space for using the engineering upgrade and research for giving the unit attributes or something...

of coarse a warrior would relly heavily on brute strength and such.

so is there anyone who thinks this is possible?. baring in mind im doing this for my intense rpg and im using custom models with equipable items n such..

Create an ability called Spell Book using the Item Spell Book's base. Then I think you can edit what type of spells that can be cast.

Using non-hero units as heroes in your RPG? Meh, it could be done in Starcraft, so it can be done in War3.
The question is though; why doing it the hard way when it's being made easy for you?

well heres the update:ive got a normal unit and using research (think footman with defend) i have like a mage with passive abilitys to research making him better, the ultimate bieng spell immunity and others such as spell steal.think of these as feats more than abilitys.
then ill make a spell book well balanced and with elements such as fire and death...does this sound sorta original so far...

in response to your q im doing this because i want something diff from the usual learning abilitys thing..i mean its far fetched when your trying for an rpg that has a farmboy hero right?..at least in mine you have to research in a mage library to get the abilitys..which to me sounds more realistic yet fictional.

edit:i dont want to use hero's because to my knowledge there isnt a trigger that gives heros normal unit ability's and that what i want, cuz mine are gonna be in the spell book, and feats where the hero ones would go.

Hm. Weeelll, it does sound highly original. Go for it!
Also, with upgrades you can increase armor (duration training) and weapon damage (weapon training) easily.

its your map and you could pull it off. just remember that you cant edit the spells in the spell book with triggers. If you want to replace or add spells to the spellbokk you will have to replace the spell book itself.

with upgrades you can assign abilitys without having them available staright away, you have to research em which is perfect, its gonna be like magi training lvl1,2,3,4.

well the spell books will define classes within the magi, as in having to choose necro, elements, shape shift, summoner..

the warrior will have a massive array of weapons and shields that the magi cant equip..so i think that sorts some balance.

Im making a map which requires a character selection. There are vast amounts of characters to choose, and I want them all to be heroes. Does this mean going through, creating 36 new heroes, and assigning atrributes to each of them, and changing things like the btn, model file and stats. Please tell me no. And then how!
