Pathing

I have a couple questions regarding pathing.

1) Is it possible to make a model that is walkable in certain areas, and over the top as well?

2) Is it possible (in the World Editor) to fix a building or structure so that an Archer (or any other ranged unit, for that matter) on one side of the building can't shoot through it to attack a unit on the other side?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

I've been wondering on this myself. I've been searching the forums to no avail. >_<
Please forgive me for bringing up a topic that's...somewhat dead? O_O

I believe that you can make doodads walkable by giving them a bridge's pathing and the "walkable" trait in the dood.

As far as blocking ranged attacks... I don't think you can. I can't think of anything similar.

You can make and import your own pathing maps. Just extract one of the pathing maps and edit them.

Oh, true.

If you want a unit to have certain walkable areas, you need to find a pathing map that will work for you. Place a few structures in the WE and then hit P and take a look at them.

Blue pathing means that it's walkable area, but can't be built on.
Purple means that it can't be built or walked on.

Those are pretty much the only pathing colors that you're likely to see, unless you place air or "both" blockers on the map. If I remember correctly, the basic colors are like so:

Blue = blocks building
Red = blocks ground-pathing
Green = blocks air-pathing

So, if an area is white, it's a combination of all three colors, and can't be built upon or walked- or flown-through.
Likewise, the purple area is a combination of red and blue, so that it blocks building and ground-pathing.
Etc., etc. The long and short is, if you want to make a custom pathing map to match some particular building model, you can extract the pathing map for a similar structure (hit ctrl+D before clicking on the Pathing Map field for the object in the Object Editor) and edit it in Photoshop by changing the colors according to that scheme, presumably to leave some areas un-ground-pathable and others only unbuilable.

However, this will only allow units to move through those areas. It doesn't have anything to do with if you want a unit to walk on top of a model. I believe that can only be accomplished with Doodads, and only by checking the Walkable field. Then, units will only be able to pass through the areas that are ground-pathable, but instead of following the ground, they'll follow the contours of the model.
