war3map.w3e

In the past I've hex edited the number of tiles to 16 and then typed in their letter codes, and the new .w3e file worked fine.

Today, I have no idea what I'm doing differently, but simply opening in textpad and changing Ddkr to Lrok makes WE crash when the map is opened. Changing back in textpad creates a valid w3e again, so saving in textpad isn't breaking the format or anything. And there isn't already a Lrok in the map, and Ddkr isn't needed for the cliffs, etc, I've tried w/ various tiles and maps.

So help! Have .w3e files been changed? W3Z editor still seems to be working to add extra tiles, and I can't see how my files done by hand are any different than what it makes.

curi42 (7:33:25 PM): so after 3 hours of messing with war3map.w3e files (that's the one that stores the terrain -- i wanted to edit it to get 16 tiles instead of the max of around 9 that's normal)
curi42 (7:33:33 PM): i find out the reason it wasn't working is...
curi42 (7:34:17 PM): my stupid mpq program (like winzip, for blizzard's file format) has a bug. if you just drag files in, it's supposed to replace the old one of the same name, but it's buggy. to make it work simply delete old one, then drag in new one.
