Looking at some of the terrains in this forum, I'm like o_O. While this *ahem* "terrain" is the best I can do at the moment, and for the life of me I cannot figure out what the hell is "missing" in it.

†† Any hints for this nooblar mapmaker?

Edit: more recent pics posted several times below

i think you should change the scorched crop to something else... since isn't it "not" scorched? i don't know... your call... in the second pic, maybe not put the building on the road, and on the side of the hill, since it would be kind of hard to be living verticle :P

I just think it's too hilly, period. Use smooth to flatten it out a tiny bit--if it's actually a playable map, you'll have quite a few laughs as people walk up vertically.

Why is it so hilly? You should flatten the hills out some.. Logicly people arn't going to build their houses at those angles.. it would fall apart. Also why are the corn doodads black? If the village is supose to be burned then you should add fire no? Maybe add a stable, anything to give more life to it. (If it's supose to be a normal village/farm that is..) Oh well hope I helped. =/

Actually, it is hilly on purpose. There is a terrain like this in WoW as well, not sure if it is Westfall or another farmish area.

Most of all, this is an arena map, so if you can get on top of a tall hill you can see almost the entire map and snipe down at enemies below who cannot retaliate because they cannot even see you on their screen ^_^ , and also it is noticably faster to follow the flat roads than go through the steep hills.

......

Bleh, the yellow bg and fog worked better in the editor than in the actual game, it looked like lava :o I hope this is decent or else it's back to the old white fog.

Much more improoved, and is very...Dark? Well, I see how you never really made a map, and this is not so bad for a first try. And as DarkElune said, it's using too much hills, it's making it look like it's cartoon-ish. Well, it's improoving much more, compared to the first batch of pictures you showed us.

Well, everyone said to add more doodads, so here they are, increasing the # of doodads from 150-something to 4000+ ^_^

The hills are there to stay, though. Gameplay issues. Line of sight, increased range from hilltops, etc.

The houses shouldn't be angled...
