Every time I try to get into photo shop everything just messes me up. Here are a few problems I have.

-Is there a way so that the color chooser looks like a triangle, square or circle like in Open Canvas or Painter?
-Is there a way to change the opacity to how it works in Painter? I just don't have any idea how to blend the colors together with this kind of opacity on.
-How do I work the custom brush thing?
-I'm used to working with one layer, but it doesn't seem I can do this on PS, am I correct in this assumption?

1. Yes. Under Edit->Preferences there is a drop down menu called Display and Cursors. You can change it there.
2. I'm not sure how opacity works in painter but in photoshop, there is an opacity setting usually in the upper center of the window.
3. Custom brushes go here for a tutorial (polykarbon).
4. Yes you can work on one layer. Just don't create any new layers. If you happen to have more than one layer and want to put everything on that one layer, then go to Layer->Merge Visible.

Another question, is there some way to edit the first layer so you can set it on multiply or something?

Right click the layer, in layer menu and go to blending options.

In the layer window, there's a dropdown menu. At default it says "normal" so click it and multiply is on the list.

Oh! If the layer name is "Background", double click it and then press ok. Then it should be editable.

1. Yeah, just click on that little square of color and the color selector comes up. I really like the system they have for this in photoshop, and I don't really like the triangle in Painter.

2. My brush opacity is usually around 30 %, and the flow around 20 %. I change it accordingly, depending on what the situation calls for. Check the attached animation.

3. Just play around with it. To make a new brush, make a new image about 100x100, and make some crap on there as what you might like your brush tip to look like. Then go to Edit>>Define Brush. The settings I like to play around with are spacing, angle jitter, scattering, and sometimes dual brush. I can't get too fancy, because my computer's old and it starts to chug.

4. You can work on one layer if you want. I usually do three or four max for a coloring, but paintings come in one layer.

5. No. What would it be multiplying? Layer compositing only affects the layer if something is underneath it. There's nothing underneath the first layer, so you can only play with additional layers in this manner. To make a copy of the first layer, just drag the layer to that little icon second to the right.

I blend with the color picker. I keep my finger on the (alt) key to make it faster. Once the base colors are layed down on the picture, this really makes painting faster because I don't have to fool around with the color window.

Hope that helps. Any more questions on photoshop? Don't hesitate to ask me.
