Hmm burn/dodge only is fun and nifty but maybe try some 30% opacity colors? Gives a more paint like look and sometimes makes the pic better. |

hrm.. i wouldnt say the coloring is godly... just better than mediocre. not to put you down or anything... but anyone could color like that.... what u need to do is to have a better light source... also, burning isnt that good. it actually makes the ppl look burnt... u should really try to color and blend w/ low opacities... as for your drawings...... the fingers on the 3rd hand seems a bit short... or maybe a bit chubby... the finger in the way back looks a bit fat. slimming them down, or elongating them would make it look better. lips are.. okay... u should really practice shading a lot. it will help out a lot.. in drawings.. and also in coloring. once u get shading down... u can be more confident w/ ur color changes. |

I like the drawings of the hands. They are a little skewed, but I can see the process at work in those pictures, and it is something I like to see. The colorings are pretty good, but they could be improved a little. In the first one, that background isn't right; it's nearly the same sort of color as her skin. If you want to make her pop out, desaturate that background, and change the value. The second one's white background can work because she herself is quite dark, but it is something I would watch for in the future. There's nothing so very wrong with using dodge and burn, but don't get too comfortable with it. It's a better idea to paint using colors instead of those tools, but you should move at your own pace. Keep it up. |

Thanks alot for the crits, just the stuff I was looking for. FUNG, dont worry, not offended :P, I know what level my coloring is at and I actualy think its more mediocre, but im trying to get better. Thanks alot for the hands and shading tips, ill keep it in mind for my next coloring and drawing stuff. Ogre Crossing, the reason I made her background like that is because it wasnt supposed to be ver proffesional coloring. I just did it for quick practice in a coloring thread and I kinda liked the way it turned out. And if I get permission from a particular artist from conceptart.org then I will post another colored piece. Oh, and the reason im using other peoples pieces to color so much is because I am mostly doing anatomy studies in drawings which arent usualy colored, so I just wanna keep my skills sharp even though I havent got any of my own drawings to color. Thanks for the crits guys, please keep em comin ^_^ . |

Ogre, that is awesome, it really helps out. Love how you made the light on the orange and the way you fixed up the composition. Thx for the help, and for the encouragement. Im putting up another picture quite soon. And painter is really good, I wouldnt use it on its own, but you can get some really great effects in it. It has basicly any traditional media you can think of, so I just use it for some effects and then photoshop for the highlights in stuff. I just dled the trial and I got another while for it, and I sudgest you at least try it out, its really fun |
