well i wasn't exactly sure if this was the right place to put it but it seems the best. i don't understand what you need to change to make the art different (for example if i wanna make a frost chain (based off chain lightning) what do i need to change? i change the animation art and it doesn't show anything)) what do i do?

Open up the spell in the object editor. Any fields that have art in them will show you what they are in the main WE window when you open them up in the OE. Change what you want into what you want.

Chain Lightning also has an Art - Lightning effect, which you may or may not want. There aren't currently any lightning effects that look anything like frost.

Since the art effects for Chain Lightning are all one-shot, you should be able to use any model that has a birth and/or stand animation for them.

that last part was confuzing are you saying that you can only redesignate the art to the category the original spell was made for? and i made a shockwave and switched the art to batrollblood but it only comes up with this little slapt of blood? what do i do?

Lots of spell arts are specifically made to match the situation in which they are shown. The Shockwave special effect model itself takes up space more or less equivalent to the area of effect of the damage the spell does. Bat troll blood is only a tiny effect, so of course it's going to look wildly out-of-place when used with a large AoE spell.
