It's odd... but, even when opening the correct MPQ, after installing 1.17, Warviewer seems to be unable to find the (Tinker!!!), Firelord, and Alchemist. Has anyone else had this problem? |

Probably because Blizzard stopped including the (listfile) with their patches. When War3Viewer opens up the War3Patch.mpq, it's just going to see a bunch of files without filenames and it will only load files with filenames that end in one of the model or image extensions. Update: Then again, maybe there's more to it then that. I just went through all the new stuff (that I could think of) and copied the paths for their icons and models into a new (listfile) and only (some?) of the icons and scorescreens are showing up--no models at all. Update: But all in all, I'm really just an idiot. Models use an .mdx extension--I was doing an .mdl extension ^_^ I'll put up a listfile for them in a bit. Update: I think I have most (if not all) of the image and model files now. Make a copy of your War3Patch.mpq file. If you go modifying the original, you'll just redownload a fresh one when connecting to b.net and lose all your changes. Now download my attachment: (listfile).txt. Once it's saved, rename it to be simply (listfile) and insert it into your copy of the patch file. |

Thanks, I think. :P Naturally, I can't get this to work, somehow. Firstly, I never open War3Patch.mpq to extract models, I open either War3.mpq, or War3x.mpq for the models. I never touch War3Patch.mpq. I never needed to, all War3 extension models, including those from the patches, I could find in War3x. Or at least, I think I could. Secondly, how would I rename a .txt file to something without an extension? Lastly, how on earth can I copy something INTO a duplicate of war3Patch.mpq? And do you mean copieng the file into it, or just the text? :( |

Hehe... Blizzard has never included new models or icons in a patch before. All the new units, race heroes, and neutral heroes were included with the expansion. Quote:
In Windows Explorer, you need to open your Folder Options dialog. It should be either Tools > Folder Options or View > Folder Options. Then click on the View tab. In the Files and Folders section, uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" -- this way, you'll be able to see the extensions for all your files and consequently modify them to whatever you need. Now rename the "(listfile).txt" to "(listfile)" Quote:
I'm assuming here that you've never modified MPQ files before. I'd recommend downloading WinMPQ from here Once you have that installed, you'll be able to view the contents of MPQ files (as well as .w3m and .w3x files). Try double-clicking on your copy of the War3Patch.mpq file. If it opens in WinMPQ then great! Skip the next two paragraphs. If it doesn't open right away, then it depends on what version of Windows you're using, but you'll need to access the "Open With..." menu. It should come up when you double-click the file. If not, try right-clicking it and see if there's an "Open With..." option in the right-click menu. Once you get to there, you'll need to click on Browse and go select your WinMPQ.exe. From now on, you should be able to double-click any MPQ file and have it open up in WinMPQ. Be careful when working with MPQ files because changes are permanent and save themselves immediately, so it's best to only work with copies of files (or create back-ups ahead of time) so you don't permanently damage anything. Now that you have your copy of War3Patch.mpq open (it should have a bunch of "unknown" stuff listed) just drag your (listfile) onto the file area, click OK, and then push F5 to refresh the MPQ. You should now be able to see the models and icons if you scroll down to the bottom of the list below all the other unknown stuff. War3Viewer should also now be able to view them if you open your copy of the patch with it. |

Alternatively, once you have WinMPQ, if you go to Options... > File Lists > Add List File... you can use the listfile without renaming it and without inserting it. |
