It depends on what program you are using, if you are using Photoshop one of the already open tool windows should have something like "Channels" "Layers" etc, go to Channels and choose Alpha 1 or whatever it is called (its the white layer) you may notice that parts of this are black, these parts are alphaed out already or are team colour, simple go back to your normal layer and select what you want removed then go back into Alpha 1 and make that part black. have fun.

Just have a look around, I never really understood it before when I started skinning but I learnt it easily

Hmm dosent that sometimes make thae area just team color.. and if not, how alpha out team color areas?

I find it far less complicated to use Oinerwinkles Vertex Modifier and just delete what you dont want! This makes it far smother running in maps.

You cant alpha out team colour you need to model edit for that

Here is the paintshop version as well:

Go to
"masks>load from alpha channel" and choose your alpha 1
Next
"masks>view mask" and then "masks>edit mask"
You should now see some red areas. These areas are the parts that are either team color or transparancy. To remove team color or transparancy paint over the red areas with white. The red should dissappear and the normal image will show underneath. When you are done do this
"masks>save to alpha channel" and save over the Alpha 1.
Save the skin and you are done.

Windrunner
with photoshop ( i have ps 7) , select the brush tool. in the menu above it says normal and you can change it into overlay, darken, dissolve etc.. select clear and clear out the parts you want to be invisible. i know this isnt alpha out but it works.

you can use the lasso, if you want to skin you need to use the brush tool.

You can make lots of things using alpha channels.
Last time i used alphas for puting 1 image over another. It looked cool.
But sometimes i just hate these layerish thingys - when you use some "lasso tool" or something and copy the marked area, then wenn you paste it back it been posted as a new layer and dont marks. Kinda bugging. U should switch thoese layers everytime, not very cool after some Paint or progs like it. It's like in PSP(PaintShopPro) - when you paste, it pastes as a new document. Not cool :)

But anyways:
Photoshop is great programm that gives most useful features for editing a graphic.
It's best.

I think u need 2 get the targa plug in Windrunner. It makes it so that alphas dont turn invisble on you.
