Guest | Having a bit of an argument over a map I'm lazily making with some friends, hopefully you folks can help settle it for us As the title says, it involves Army Control. Some of us favor the 'simplistic' path, where the only control you get is purchasing army upgrades (+Damage and such) and the Towers which result in additional units. Then there is the fanatical side of the group, which pushes greatly for being able to control every detail - units spawned, upgrades (more powerful base units and stats) specific to each spawning building. Control where the units go, that sort of thing. Just curious as to what the general population prefers. Thanks in advance :D Vandin |

I would think simple is usually better, especially as most of the people playing your map wouldnt bother modify all the tiny spawn details, most people dont even buy upgrades for spawns in AoS maps anyway. It would be nice to see some more unit customisaton in what is spawned though, maybe each barracks can spawn a combination up to say 15 foods worth of units, and every so often players can mix and match the unit combination spawned, to more effectively counter what their enemy has selected. However this would be very hard to balance methinks. The best option it to find a simple and unique way of customizing the spawned unit types, that adds a unique element to the game as well as being something that people will actually do. |

Simple control is better. you can't focus on your hero, which is usually the most important unit for you since it's both the source of income, and the potential loss of it when you die, if you have to split attention between it and managing an army which is EVERYWHERE on the map. Now, if this'd be an AOS which gives control of units -nearby- your hero, it'd make for some interestnig strats. |

welcome to the forums! i think limited controll is better b/c then it sorrta in a way ruins the point of your hero. however having to limited control is no fun |

Yeah.. both are good ways but why not fuse them? Give some players controll over certin things and others over difrent things. I.E. red, Blue And Teal controll the movment orders, 3 other controll upgrades, etc etc.... Just a thought! (Why Conform?) -Garith |

I recommend comprimising, control of where units are going is going to be too hard to use but you should be able to kinda customize building by building what the spawns can do. Its more based on how you want the gameplay to go, for DotAA ish map where the heroes will get incredibly strong enough to level a base on their own you'll want to go simple, but if the heroes powers don't go to the extreme you'll want to do stuff like upgrades and things to put an emphasis on the spawns. |
