Finding obscure sounds

Greetings.

As far as I can tell, units in Warcraft 3 have sounds associated with either their model or their soundset which are not necessarily accessible through the Sound Editor.

For example, the Rifleman unit has a "bang" sound effect when he fires, but this isn't listed in his sound effects under the unit's sounds in the Sound editor, and it isn't in any of the Ability\Weapon\ categories, either.

So, how does one find out where the sound is located, and then how does one use that sound in-game?

Well the sounds are in the mdl coded...i think i have the file where the code for the bang is...but anyway if u wanna use this sound...i think u have too use the code for the gun on the desire model u want the sound too play...but if u want it too be like a background sound that comes....i dont really know.

I wasn't expecting to have to edit a model to insert the sound; rather, I was hoping I could discover what the sound was so that I could find a way to "Use As Sound" in the Sound Editor.

I'm familiar with the idea of models being responsible for creating sounds, but I don't know how to turn the sound information in the .mdl into a path for a sound file in the .mpq.

The only thing I know about that is that you can access the sounds if you wanna edit a spell, you can pick those kind of sounds in the Animation list under Sound - Effect.

So if I can find a spell with a casting sound that I could use as a dummy, I could use a caster unit to make a sound?

Seems like an awful lot of process for a simple result. And entirely worthwhile if it works. :)
