Unit placement not the same

i've noticed that whenever i place units in the editor, they are never in the correct place when i try the game.

for instance, when i try place a perfect circle of peons facing eachothers backs, when i start the game, they are scattered around the general area. what's up with that?

The WE sometimes lets you put things in places that they're not allowed, or allows you to place units closer together than their collision permits. When this happens, the game starts spreading the units out automatically.

Also, if the units are computer-controlled and unpaused, they might be trying to start some primitive AI functions and failing.

Lastly, if you're using air clustering for some reason, the units will draw away from each other automatically.
