protect map from editing?

I was trying to look at some triggers for the map of spellcraft and it wont let me open it in the editor.

Is there such a thing as protection on maps so that other's can't see or edit what you have?

Absolutely.

If you look around the net, you will find some tools that will protect and unprotect maps (unprotect is the protected map used the same protection utility at the unprotect utility).

There is actually a great map protection program on this site. I believe it can be found in one of the developer's corner forums.

Just look around. If i find the link, i will post it.

EDIT: Ok, here is a link to the map protector.

EXT isnt very good compared to heavy locker, Brash just go look in the search thing for heavy locker and go there and get the update to protect YOUR map from getting stolen or so....but unprotecting maps is stupid by far do you know why?? because only morons try to open your map and look inside for eitherr models or triggers if you really need that trigger call the creator...if he doesnt give it to you or it doesnt say who made it just ask here.

rtm2, i wasn't trying to break into a map, just had wanted to look before and noticed that it wouldn't let me. it wasn't a big deal. but it lead me to believe there was a way of protecting.

rtm2. isn't that rather harsh? we all look if we can. curiosity. and moron is what one would be had they been released from ever having that curiosity. i dont care enough to break into it though. but when i download something, i often look real fast if i can just to get a general idea of what's behind the scenes.

I have yet to copy anyone's work though because so far none of it has suited what i do. but if i see something that gives me an idea, then hell yeah i'll use it. mostlikely not the same though, but probably some likenesses. besides, all the stuff i do is pretty general and is repeated in most maps, just with slight twists. and as far as asking the author.. ah.. couldn't be bothered. i just open, doens't work, then move onto next map. i respect them not wanting it opened, which i can only see when it wont let me.

and i do it more for a learning process.. i have more fun designing the map than actually playing it. if it gets discarded after as a crap map, doesn't bother me. i am by far not competing with anyone. just trying to make things weird, different than i've already seen... and see what is possible. find the limits.

could we leave an xmas present unopened on the counter for a year or more if we dont know what's inside?

I would like to know why you think that. Heavy locker increases the file size like crazy.

You're simply wrong. HL compresses better than any other tool.

HL does compress better, but it doesn't handle the protection quite as well as EstProtect unless it has been updated recently.

Yes it has been updated and it reduces map size by 20% and if your map is like 40000kb thats alot!!

ExtProtect is extremely simple to use. All you need to do is select your map in the first box, pick what to save it as in the last box, put a password if you want, and then click protect.
