I decided to try out using more colors in my drawings and this is what I came up with.

I didn't take it too seriously so don't expect anything deep and thoughtful.

Not serious? Then why the hell are you still drawing such an awesome torso? ...bastard...

Well... I see nothing wrong with the "clayish" look of most of your pastels... but this looks pretty cool too.

I'd say that if you want to add more color... go for brighter highlights and darker shadows... the contrast from the shadows should make it seem like it's more colorful.

desaturate the shadows too if you feel like it...

There are a couple of things which I really like in here. The sky is usually seen as darker at the top and getting lighter towards the horizon, but the reversal you have here excellently portrays a misty or hazy situation, which thusly adds to the atmosphere. The purple reflected light on the fellow is also a nice touch.

I think I see what you wanted to do with his shorts, but frankly, it kind of hurts the eyes. They stand out too much and just don't seem to fit in the picture. There's nothing wrong with something being monochromatic or at least analogous. Throwing that hot neon green in there upsets the balance. Also, maybe you should try darkening his legs. They are the same color as the sky behind him, so the eye is confused and the illusion of depth is broken. I think what would also be a great subtle detail to put in would be some buildings in the background of a red only slightly darker, as if we were seeing them through a haze. The anatomy is pretty good in most cases, but that pec/bicep/deltoid triad looks a little strange.

Otherwise, pretty good. Great thing to be experimenting. Keep it up!

Thanks for the help Ogre. I was very obligated to do the green pants, I wanted to do Whitey Tighties but I havn't owned a pair for like 8 years so I don't know what they look like.

Your ideas have inspired me to work on this more, thanks.

Well, the green could still work, but just mute it down a little. A neutral green with dark olive shadows and maybe a slight emerald green as the highlights might suit this. Of course, you have to justify the lighting conditions and make it work with the rest of the image.

And glad I could be of some help.

Good job on the picture, the muscles look great. Sometimes your pictures appear blurry, like this one. I liked how you did that female barbarian picture, it was nice and sharp. The first thing I noticed when I saw this picture was the things eye, you did a great job on that. You made it look very realistic.
