an actual multi-map mmorpg... what i am talking about is an online rpg that spans across numerous regions and maps... now when you hear that, its like "well you cant do that on bnet" but what my concept is, using save/load have 2 or even 1 character's of it to save what map and the entry/exit point (a region in the map the player has entered to enter a new map) - that is also the method in which you save (maybe also offer the traditional "-save" method.) now what to do is... have lets say 5 "epic" scale maps... at the begining of the map you can choose to start again or put a save code in... for examples purposes lets say you are in a desert map and you enter a cave to goto the cave map. save code is "9999-9999-999A" the A being the map that the player is entering, the caves. The player is given a save code and his hero is removed from the game and the player cannot control anything any longer. then the player must leave the game (if in lan game, they just start a new game) and are forced to either host the caverns map or wait for someone to host it. It may cause problems but it might open up possibities. having the location coded into the save/load code will make the player HAVE to follow the set areas.... what would be really ammusing is areas that are maybe to high level or not interesting enough which never get hosted would force people to host it themselves, request etc. it will be very hard to do, like each map must have indentical units, save code and triggers... which could be done on a base map and then imported/exported... but still i believe this would be able to open up numerous possibilities... make an RPG anywhere between 2 times bigger to 100 times bigger... |

If you can demonstrate the feasability and functionality of your idea, I'd be curious to see it. |

well it wouldn't involve much, just an extra part to the save code and a check to determine wether they are infact in the right area, if not - the hero wont load. |

I hope it won't be a guessable letter on the end to determine where you can go. |

yeh, it would have to be like mixed deep into the save code... when i get home i will make up maybe a 2 or 3 set demo maps. i will make them 64x64 with just basic terrain and save code that doesnt have encryption (so if your str=12 agi=8 int=7 and the hero is a paladin the code will be like "012-008-007-321". the red is the area call, like "3" is the entry they will be placed, 1 what area they are in. The 1 at the end would be the call of the paladin (him being the first hero of the list). this is just me planning, but when i get home i will trhow one together and post it. EDIT: ok i am making the map, i have made a majority of the 1st map and the save code, its gotta kinda look like a proper one for authenticity. |
